I had been on the lookout for colored curvy fit denim this fall and really lucked out when I found this pair from Ann Taylor. The fit is great for my body type, and there is a hint of stretch that made them comfortable to wear. I paired them with one of my favorite new blouses from Anthropologie that has a black bicycle print on it and an old “minus the leather” jacket from Express. I also grabbed my mustard bow wedges from Seychelles from last year. I love pairing teal + mustard + burgundy/brown this fall.
The look:
Curvy Slim Denim Jeans – Ann Taylor $69.99 on sale
Minus the Leather jacket – Express $118 when not on sale
Today I broke out the tights for the first time this season and wore a new dress from Target paired with my jean jacket and some new diamond print tights from Old Navy. I love these boots because they keep my legs nice and warm. The dress is awesome because it has pockets and long sleeves if I take the jacket off.
I’m just getting over the flu after my travels and Stitch Fix #5 arrived today to cheer me up. Unfortunately, once again I’m a bit dissapointed. The colors were drab and I didn’t get an “cozy knits” like I had asked for. Also in my profile I had specifically called out no wool since I have an allergy, and the navy cardigan they sent has wool in it that caused my skin to start turning red and itching. Not thrilled with the choices. I don’t understand because I see other peoples reviews and will see tons of cute stuff and get excited about my next fix, only to find drab items that don’t excite me.
Here were the items:
Navy wool blend cardiganStriped TopJedi robe?Burgundy BlouseGreen Necklace
Missa – Koa Striped 3/4 Sleeve V-Neck Shirt – $68
I like the fit of this blouse, and the colors were nice. It just didn’t thrill me because it’s very similar to many items I already have. I decide to keep it since the fit was nice, but it’s quite pricey for such a thin blouse.
41Hawthorn – Elora Silk Button Down Collared Blouse – $98
I had actually been wanting some tops in burgundy to compliment my fall wardrobe, but this one is on the expensive side and was super long with really long arms. I’m not sure if it was supposed to fit that way or if it was too big, but I liked the softness of the silk and the color was nice so I’ll be keeping it.
TCEC – Donelle V-Neck Button-Up Cardigan – $58
The card for this sweater suggested buttoning it up, but there was no way that could happen. It was super fitted throughout the body and arms, and when I discovered my skin was itching and red I checked the label and sure enough it was 35% wool. I specifically called out no wool in my profile so I’m pretty unhappy about this item.
41Hawthron – Jacy Hooded Knit Jacket – $68
“May the Force Be With You”, in this lovely number.
Okay, all joking aside, I did feel a bit costumey in this and it just didn’t really fit into the rest of my wardrobe. The inner unfinished terry fabric is exposed at the neckline and it looks unpolished. Not to mention I feel like I’m wearing a robe. It’s long and bulky and I just can’t see myself wearing this.
Overall Impression
Overall, I wasn’t super happy with this fix. I don’t know why the first few fixes started out strong, then I started getting more and more drab items. It seems like almost everything they send has navy and black. Those are great neutrals, but I already have a closet full of that. I was looking for something a little different and unexpected I could add to my wardrobe, but not so different that I feel like a young Jedi in training or Miss America reject. (See last fix for that lovely item.) I am keeping the burgundy blouse, the necklace, and the striped top, but nothing is making me super excited. I decided to try to vocalize what I wanted and give it one more try in November. This time I am asking for a knee length fall floral dress to wear with a long cardigan and boots. It’s something I’ve been looking for and haven’t found yet. Fingers crossed!
