Stitch Fix April – It all went back

I decided to give Stitch Fix another try since I had some credit and unfortunately I had the same experience I’ve been having with the last two fixes.

Here was my note this time:

April note to stylist

And here’s what I got.

Stitch Fix April 2016

Collective Concepts – Kaira Split Neck Blouse $68

Stitch Fix April 2016Stitch Fix April 2016

Too short in the front and too boxy of a fit, definitely not good for my shape.

Maggy London – Ema Crepe V-neck Dress $118

Stitch Fix April 2016Stitch Fix April 2016

Okay print, horrible fabric (thick polyester) and HORRIBLE fit for a pear shape.  I never wear short sheath dresses like this.  I always go with fit and flare which is much better for my shape and what I have always requested.  The fit was even worse in the back with  bunching up and too tight some places too loose in others.

Kut From the Kloth – Gracelyn Pencil Skirt $58

Stitch Fix April 2016

This was an absolute miss.  Again, I have a pear shape.  Pencil skirts never work.  It was about 8 inches too big in the waist and way too tight in the thighs.  My husband saw me and commented, “how can that be too big and too small at the same time??”  Because it was never meant for my body.  (The next pic shows it on.)

Pixley – Tamarindo Blazer $68

Stitch Fix April 2016Stitch Fix April 2016

The shape was okay and the pattern was cute, but it was a thick polyester un-breathable fabric and I couldn’t bend my arms comfortably because there was no stretch.  For someone who is on a keyboard all day at work this was a no go.

41Hawthorn – Thompsen Striped Zipper-Back Pullover Sweater $64

Stitch Fix April 2016Stitch Fix April 2016This was the only maybe, but the fabric was incredibly thin, the zipper pulled away weird in the back where it ended and the neckline was too wide.  For a sweater it wouldn’t actually keep me warm at all.  Plus the length was a little longer than I’d like.  For $64 I can do better.

So all of it is going back.  They sent me an email the next day asking if I’d be willing to try again if they waive the styling fee.  I honestly can’t decide if I should bother.  Unless they do an amazing job and find 5 pieces I really like, the prices are too high without the discount and I have little faith they’ll find 5 things that fit well and are my style.

Stitch Fix January 2016 – Uninspiring

It’s been a while since my last fix, and I had been seeing some really cute sweaters in other peoples boxes, so I decided to give it a try one more time.

Here’s what I requested:

Stitch Fix January 2016

Here’s what I got:

Stitch Fix January 2016

Mak – Jaclynn 3/4 sleeve button up cardigan $38

Stitch Fix January 2016

I didn’t get a good picture of this on.  It’s just a basic black 3/4 sleeve cardigan in a super lightweight material that you’d wear in the middle of August.  It was not even remotely appropriate for January in the Pacific Northwest.  Returned.

Absolutely – Bary Boat Neck Pullover Sweater $58

Stitch Fix January 2016

Stitch Fix January 2016

Personally I find the colors on this very ugly and the sweater was itchy and uncomfortable.  Not to mention, also very lightweight and appropriate for a 65 degree day in June.  Returned.

RD Style – Gemmi Side Slit Pullover Sweater $78

Stitch Fix January 2016

Stitch Fix January 2016

This sweater was open on both sides all the way up to the armpit, not to mention it is a high-lo fit which I specifically called out I do not like.  Very unflattering and feels cold not cozy with open sides.  Returned.

41Hawthorn – Benton Cowl Neck Sweater $78

Stitch Fix January 2016

Stitch Fix January 2016

The sleeves were incrediby long on this (I ended up rolling them up) and there were two side cutouts that frame my “problem area” in my upper thighs.  It’s like an announcement, “here are my saddle bags!!”  Again, unflattering for my body type.  It was a very soft and cozy fabric and for that reason I debated keeping it until I saw the price.  $78 for a so-so sweater is way too much.  Returned.

41Hawthorn – Gideon Polka Dot Sweater $68

Stitch Fix January 2016

Stitch Fix January 2016

I do love polka dots, but wasn’t thrilled with the color of this.  Off white washes me out.  The fit was okay with baggy sleeves and it looked cute under a military style jacket as the card suggested.  I decided to keep only because I didn’t want to lose out on the $20 styling fee and this was just okay.  Reluctantly Kept.

Overall

I won’t be going back to Stitch Fix anytime soon.  I had posted a bunch of cute cozy sweaters in COLORS on my Pinterest page and once again I got dull grey and black and 2 items that were not suitable for the pacific northwest winter.  I don’t know how other people get good items from stitch fix, but I seem to be rather unlucky with what they send me.

Stitch Fix September 2015

My September stitch fix arrived yesterday, and once again I’m disappointed.  Here was the note to my stylist.

Stitch Fix September 2015

Annnnd here’s what I got:

Stitch Fix September 2015

I see some color, but mostly dull grey and drab olive.  And what is that thing on the bottom, a blanket??

RD Style – lana Twisted Seam Sweater $68

Stitch Fix September 2015

Stitch Fix September 2015

Dull, boxy fit and just sort of sticks out at my mid-section.

Return.

41Hawthorn – Lisbon Stud Detail Blouse $58

Stitch Fix September 2015 Stitch Fix September 2015

Yes it’s an olive color, but the fabric feels itchy and artificial and I didn’t really ask for a blouse.  I don’t see myself wearing this because of the itchy fabric.

Returned

Market and Spruce – Alexi Dress $74

Stitch Fix September 2015 Stitch Fix September 2015

The color and fabric are nice, and that’s all it has going for it.  The waist was loose and big and the arm holes were uneven and way too big.  My bra was completely showing on one side.

Returned.

Kut From the Kloth – Michael Faux Leather Jacket $78

Stitch Fix September 2015 Stitch Fix September 2015 Stitch Fix September 2015

The color is nice, but I already have a ton of faux leather jackets in a bunch of colors.  Also the arms are really loose and long on this one and my husband said it looked to big on me.  I’m undecided only because this is the ONLY item I’d even consider keeping and if I don’t keep anything I’m out $20 just for the privilege of trying on a bunch of stuff that doesn’t work for me.

Undecided.

RD Style – Laverne Poncho Cardigan $68

Stitch Fix September 2015
Are you kidding me?
Stitch Fix September 2015
Seriously?????

I don’t recall asking for a blanket, nor does this look like anything on my pinterest page.  I posted a bunch of cute fitted fall outfits and she sends me a blanket with arm holes??  The fabric is scratchy and I look like I am a giant old lady.  This would never in a million years work with my shape.  Honestly, the worst thing they’ve ever sent me.

RETURNED.

Overall Impressions

Overall I think this was a bad fix.  I didn’t get the skinny jeans I requested, there was only one dress, no skirts, and a serious lack of color aside from the wearable blanket.  I think Lindsay did a pretty good job as my stylist, but I kept requesting her later and they kept telling me she was on vacation and this stylist definitely does not get me.  I guess I’m done with Stitch Fix again.

Stitch Fix August Review

This month’s stitch fix was somewhat disappointing, but I did get one incredible item.  Here’s what I requested:

stitch fix note August

And Here’s what I got.  Mostly dark colors…

Stitch Fix August 2015

Bancroft – Cambridge Metal Belt Cuff Bracelet  $28

Stitch Fix August 2015

I didn’t care for this bracelet, it just wasn’t my style and was uncomfortable for someone who is typing all day.

Sent back.

Market & Spruce – Leavenworth Sleeveless Top $44

Stitch Fix August 2015

Stitch Fix August 2015

To be fair, I did pin this on my pinterest board, but in person the colors were more navy/red than purple/red like it looked in the picture from Stitch Fix.  Also the collar hit me uncomfortably and if I’m wearing a sleeveless top I don’t want a high neck.

Sent back.

Leota – Abilene Polka Dot Dress $148

Stitch Fix August 2015

Stitch Fix August 2015

Stitch Fix August 2015

I fell in love with this dress before I saw the price.  The cut, the fabric, the polka dots!  I loved everything but was a bit sticker shocked when I saw the price.  Despite that I decided this was the one item I was keeping this month.  I already wore it to work.

Tart – Kaylie Solid French Terry Blazer $128

Stitch Fix August 2015

Stitch Fix August 2015

Again, this just wasn’t my style.  It was very “Academic/Preppy” which I don’t really wear and had shoulder pads.  Also a really high price tag for a knit blazer.  I was surprised at the price of the items this month!

Sent back.

Brixon Ivy – Steph Dress $58

Stitch Fix August 2015

Stitch Fix August 2015

Absolutely not.  This is a very thin knit cut in a very unflattering nightgown shape.  She said she sent this because I had pinned a similar dress from the stitch fix pinterest page, but on the stick thin twiggy model this looked adorable.  With my figure, a shapeless nightgown is not something I’d ever wear or pick for myself.  I wish the stylist kept the client’s body type in mind when picking items not the literal things they saw on pinterest.  I like the idea or look of some things but not the literal translation for me.

Sent back!

Overall Impressions

So while I was happy with my adorable (albeit expensive) polka dot dress, the rest of the items were off and not at all my style or right for my body type.  I signed up for a September fix but am considering cancelling it and purchasing a pair of Hunter boots I’ve been eyeing on the Nordstrom site… What do you think?

Stitch Fix July – A pleasant surprise

We’ve been having a crazy heat wave here in the Pacific Northwest so for this stitch fix I requested knit fabrics and skirts and dresses:

July Stitch Fix 2015

Here’s what I got:

July Stitch Fix 2015

Marlyn Schiff – Aliza Stone Teardrop Earrings $28

July Stitch Fix 2015

I didn’t take a separate picture of these and while the color is nice, they reminded me so much of the cheap earrings you get paired with a necklace at Charming Charlie.  I wouldn’t have kept these if it wasn’t for the 5 item discount.

Pixley – Randa Tiered Knit Top $48

July Stitch Fix 2015

July Stitch Fix 2015
Armadillo?

While the fabric was a soft knit and it had a nice fitted silhouette, I didn’t care for the lack of color and the weird gathers hit me in very unflattering places and had the effect of making me look like an armadillo.  Again, I wouldn’t have kept this if it weren’t for the 5 item discount.  More  on that later.

Gilli – Tyra Maxi Dress $88

July Stitch Fix 2015

July Stitch Fix 2015

I loved the color of this (it’s bright orange, hard to tell with the pic) and I loved that I could easily wear a bra with it.  When I tried it on I liked the way it looked okay but felt it made me look a little bit wider in the hips.  Now that I see this photo I’m not so sure the shape is working for me.  Not sure I should have kept this one?

July Stitch Fix 2015
Wore it to work, loved it!

Papermoon – Remmie Printed Maxi Skirt $58

July Stitch Fix 2015 July Stitch Fix 2015The fabric on this is sooo soft and I love the colors.  It was a little bit big in the waist though.  I complained when Lindsey sent me a size small maxi skirt, but now I think it might have made sense.  The waistband was just really loose on this, but I did like the way it fit my hips better.  I guess I’m between sizes.

July Stitch Fix 2015
I wore it this week to work

Pixley – Ohara Faux Wrap Tie-Waist Dress $68

July Stitch Fix 2015 July Stitch Fix 2015

I love this dress.  The fabric is great, the fit is great, and the color is nice.  Perfect for work!

July Stitch Fix 2015
Great work dress

Overall Impressions

When I was done trying everything on, I was all set to send back the armadillo tee, and the earrings but quickly found out that I would be spending $3 less than if I kept all 5 items because of the 25% discount.  I figured even if I donate the armadillo top to the local charity shop it’s worth the $3 for the earrings.  I wish the prices were a bit more reasonable if you’re not keeping all 5 items, but overall I was really pleased with the soft fabrics and the pops of color this time.  I still didn’t get my requested stylist Lindsey because they said she’s still on vacation, but Joannie did a good job on this one.  I already went ahead and scheduled my next stitch fix for August and can’t wait to see what I get!

Stitch Fix June – A few keepers

Based on my last positive stitch fix experience I decided to give it another try.  Unfortunately the stylist who did a great job for me (Lindsey) was on vacation so I got another stylist that didn’t seem to read my past notes or get what I was looking for.  This time I asked for bright happy colors (check), and a focus on skirts and dresses (not check), and maybe a top that would go well with shorts (half check?).  Here’s what I got.

Stitch Fix June 2015 review

Urban Expressions – Adelade Woven Fold Over Clutch $48

Stitch Fix June 2015 review

I went back on forth on this one and debated it over night.  I normally would never use a clutch and don’t even own one, but I loved the feel of this bag.  It is classic with a great neutral color and the bag itself was just a great size for a night out.  In the end I decided to keep it since I don’t already have any clutches and I thought it would be good to have one on hand should the occasion ever present itself.

Renee C – Alecia Abstract Print Maxi Dress $68

With a jacket and the clutch

While I liked the pattern on this, the fabric was a bit itchy and almost iridescent, but the worst part was the fit.  A blousy top like that doesn’t look good on me and I need tops to accentuate my waist in order to flatter my pear shape.  This did nothing for my top or bottom half and a belt made it worse.  This went back.

Pixley – Abriella Waffle Knit Cardigan $48

Stitch Fix June 2015 reviewStitch Fix June 2015 review

This one gets filed under “what were they thinking?”  It was like a giant chenille bathrobe.  Great for 90 degree weather, no?  It was uncomfortable and unflattering and just a no all around.  I know I said no drapey cardigans in the past and this is definitely that.

Pixley – Edmond Chevron Print Henley Shirt $54

Stitch Fix June 2015 reviewStitch Fix June 2015 review

Something I can wear.  I like the soft knit of this top and wore it the next day for an impromptu trip to a nearby island (not the tropical kind, the kind that is surrounded by the Puget Sound and you go to in order to get away from 90 degree heat.)  This was a keeper.

THML – Rosalie Embroidery Panel Back Zip Tank $68

Stitch Fix June 2015 reviewStitch Fix June 2015 review

And again, No.  I also asked for no tanks or sleeveless tops and here we go.  This one had itchy fabric sides, and if I moved my arms away from my body I looked like a giant triangle.  Great for pear shapes, tops that make you look like a triangle.  Back it went.

Overall Impressions

While I didn’t really get dresses/skirts that I was looking for, I ended up with a clutch that I unexpectedly ended up falling in love with and a nice knit top to wear with shorts.  I still hold out hope that if I try again in July with Lindsey I’ll get some good pieces again.  Maybe I just haven’t loved the Golden Tote options lately so I have been wanting to get back into stitch fix.  I think I’ll give it another shot in July.
