Stitch Fix June Review

My June Stitch Fix has arrived a bit early, but here’s what I got.

Stitch Fix June
Brighter colors

I see a crazy necklace, some pink and one green item.  At least there is some color now.

Pomelo – Mylo Chevron Print Skirt $58

I had asked for the teal chevron skirt I had seen in my last few fixes, and this time I got a pink chevron patterned skirt.  It is a poly blend fabric which I didn’t love, but it is nice and stretchy and long enough for work so paired with this white tee and the necklace, I think it’s a keeper.

Yumi – Quin Eyelet Detailed Fit and Flare Dress – $98

Doesn’t fit

On the hanger this was pretty cute, but I could tell it was very large in the top and looked pretty short.  On me it stuck out a ton at the top and was way too short for work.  I think it was maybe meant for people with a larger bust.  Going back.

Pomelo – Dory Braid Detailed Striped Tank $44

Paired with a white jacket as the card suggested, this tank is quite cute.  The necklace really works with it too.  Keeping this.

Ellison – Dannika Stripe Shoulder Raglan Tee $44

Cute fit, itchy fabric

The fit on this was cute and it would have made a great weekend tee, but the fabric contained a bit of linen and it was super itchy.  I didn’t think linen was an issue for me, but I think maybe I’ll check that box in the profile to say avoid linen.  Too bad the fabric was itchy.  Going back.

Bay to Baubbles – Mumford Beaded Ombre Collar Necklace $44

Stitch Fix June
Bay to Baubles necklace

This actually arrived broken, but I make jewelry for a hobby and had tools to fix it.  I think the quality is not great for $44, but it looked pretty cute on.

Overall Impressions

I was glad to see a skirt and some color this time, and I ended up keeping 3 of the items.  The necklace was a surprise because I wouldn’t have picked it out but it really makes a white t-shirt pop.

May Outfits

Here are some of the things I’ve been wearing this month.

Old Navy printed tee
Old Navy printed tee

I love these T-shirts available at Old Navy right now.  I got it in all three colors, mint, white and pink.  They are on sale right now for only $8.

Banana Republic Gemma Dress
Banana Republic Gemma Dress

I wore this dress for a big presentation to some higher ups, but when I got to work in the morning I found out the presentation was postponed.  I’ll have to pull it back out when it gets rescheduled.

Stitch Fix Wrap Dress
Stitch Fix Wrap Dress

I seriously love this dress.  The fabric is so nice and it lays nicely and is the perfect length.

Stitch Fix Wrap Top
Stitch Fix Wrap Top and necklace

I had mixed feelings about this wrap top from Stitch Fix.  It looks cute from some angles and my husband told me it was flattering, but then I’d catch a glimpse in the mirror at other times and have to readjust because it was not sitting in a flattering way.  It is soft and comfortable though.

Banana Republic Factory top
Banana Republic Factory top and necklace

I bought this top and necklace when I was in Hawaii at the factory shops.  I love the colors and the silky fabric.  It paired well with a navy cardigan.

Orange Gap Dress
Orange Gap Dress

I bought this dress last year and never wore it.  I had such reservations but decided to pull it out this year and wear it at least once.  It’s cute on and the color and pattern are nice, but it’s too short for me to feel comfortable and when I sit down it hikes way up which was uncomfortable at work when we have casual meetings in my office with me facing people in my chair.  I have already donated it to charity after a closet clean out.

Boden Dress
Boden Easy Day Dress

I love Boden and this dress is fabulous.  The fabric is soft and I love the polka dot pattern.  It also came in a long length which is perfect for me to wear to work.  I threw on a soft purple cardigan and some black wedge sandals and was comfortable at work.  It’s on clearance right now for $70.56.

Boden Riviera Shirt Dress

I also really love this dress which is also currently on clearance for $70.56.  I felt very chic wearing this to work and love the way it flatters my figure.

Stitch Fix Top and Mint Jeans

I wore this new stitch fix top with mint jeans as the cards had suggested and a jean jacket.  I liked the overall look.

Golden Tote May Review

The May Golden Tote has arrived!!

Golden Tote May

Golden Tote MayFor those of you unfamiliar with Golden Tote, it is a subscription clothing service where you can opt in each month by picking either one item for $49 or two items for $149.  If you pick the $49 tote, they will send you an additional 1-2 surprise items, and if you pick the $149 tote you will get an additional 3-5 surprise items.  Unlike Stitch Fix you don’t get to pick and choose what you keep, with Golden Tote it is an all or nothing deal, but it is usually worth the price even if you don’t like all of the items.  The items are very similar to what you would find at Anthropologie.

Here’s what I picked for the May Tote:

Golden Tote May

Golden Tote May
Floral blouse

Golden Tote May

I really love this first pick.  The colors on the blouse are beautiful and the fabric is so soft and comfortable.  Great first pick!

My second pick was the off white kimono:

Golden Tote May

Golden Tote MayGolden Tote May

I love the embroidered design on the back and it has a nice fit where it is longer in back.  Very different piece from what I would normally pick, but I like it.

Here were the four surprise items:

Golden Tote May
Priddy dress
Golden Tote May
Naked Zebra Dress
Golden Tote May
Renee C Chevron Dolman Top
Golden Tote May
Under Skies Halter Tank

Of the four surprise items, I liked two of them pretty well.

Golden Tote May(Sorry for the horribly blurry picture), this dress was a surprise to me.  At first I thought I could never pull it off because it’s quite short and thin, but when I added leggings, short black booties and a long necklace, I ended up really liking it.  This is a great find for me.

Golden Tote MayI also liked this dolman top.  The fabric is super soft and it drapes nicely.  I just wasn’t sure how far to pull the band down at the bottom because it’s fitted and long.  This length seemed to work okay.

And finally for the two items I didn’t care for.

Golden Tote May

I don’t really ever wear tops that show my arms so you’d never even see that this was a halter tank.  Also it’s see through so you need to wear something underneath and a tank with straps would always show through.  Just not my style.

The other thing that didn’t work was the Priddy dress.  I don’t even have a picture of me wearing it because it was that bad on me.  It was super short and did nothing for my figure.  (I’ve already been feeling somewhat bad about my body lately so I wasn’t going to create photographic evidence for what I’ve been thinking.)

Giveaway is now over

Congratulations to Jenn B. for the Speckled Tank, and Debbie P. for the Priddy Dress.  I’ll be putting those in the mail sometime this week.  Watch your mailboxes!

Overall Impressions

Overall, I think this month’s Golden Tote was worthwhile and fun.  I love seeing what the surprise items are and the two I picked worked out well for me.  If they have cute items again next month I’ll definitely consider Golden Tote again.  If you decide to check it out, please use my referral link.  Thanks!

For the Makers April Review

This Month’s For the Makers collection was called “Soft Focus” and was all about dyeing things with kool-aid.

For the Makers April For the Makers April The four projects were a necklace, 3 string bracelets, an air plant holder (no plant) and 5 note cards.

Air plant holder minus the plant

Overall, I spent a few hours on the projects and made a small mess.  I ended up making the bracelets more saturated with color because I’m not a huge fan of pastels, but they might have looked cuter in pastel.

I did end up buying an air plant from a local craft store and that is now hanging in my office.

For the Makers April
Final product

Overall it was a pretty fun kit, but I’m unsure about the value.  The supplies are all very cheap and none of the projects took all that much time.  I still enjoy getting a craft box each month so I will continue with this subscription.

Stitch Fix May Review

My May Stitch Fix arrived last weekend, and here’s what it consisted of.

Stitch Fix May
The goods

At first glance, I like the necklace, but am dissapointed by the range of colors once again.  Its back to blue and black.  I’ve had so many fixes that were just dull blue and black and this one is right there again.  Plus the only thing I asked for this time was a teal and white chevron skirt I saw in other peoples fixes, and I can see that it is not here.  Once again I don’t think they read the comments, because her note said “I see that you’ve asked for mostly tops and dresses this time…” which was not true.  I only asked for a skirt.

41 Hawthorn – Mandi Colorblock Shift Dress  $74

Stitch Fix MayStitch Fix May

Before even trying this on I knew it wouldn’t work.  Shift dresses + pear shapes do not equal flattering.

Stitch Fix May
Thumbs down

This went back.

Tart – Caldwell Pocket Front V-Neck Tee Shirt  $54

Stitch Fix MayStitch Fix May

$54 seems steep for a plain T-shirt that I could easily find elsewhere.

Stitch Fix May
Pricey Tee

I did like the color and fit, plus it looked nice with the necklace, so I decided to keep this very expensive Tee shirt.

Lily – Jonie Abstract Chevron Cowl Neck Top  $48

Stitch Fix MayStitch Fix May

Stitch Fix May
Awful fabric

I didn’t care for the dark colors of this top, and the fabric was really awful.  It was that cheap polyester blend that has no breath-ability and the fit was off too.  One shoulder stuck up oddly.  For sure going back, two thumbs down on this one.

Loveappella – Karissa Chevron Print Henley Tank  $48

Stitch Fix MayStitch Fix May

Stitch Fix May
Just okay

This top had a soft fabric and a neutral print, but I wasn’t wowed by it either.  It was just very basic.  I decide to keep it because I could throw any color cardigan over the top to add a pop of color.

Pixley – Rita Teardrop Bib Necklace  $42

Stitch Fix May
Spoon necklace

To me, this necklace looks like a bunch of spoons.  It’s a bit heavy and I felt that $42 was rather high for this type of statement necklace you can find at cheaper box stores now, but I did like the silver accents so I kept this.

Overall Impressions

This was not my favorite stitch fix and two items went back.  I think I could have returned all of it and not felt like I was missing anything.  The colors were blah and dark, and I didn’t get the skirt I had asked for.  I really hope next time I get to see some colors.  I’ve seen bright yellow blouses in other peoples fixes and was hoping for something more like that.

Paper Pumpkin April

Just this morning I decided to cancel my Paper Pumpkin subscription because I don’t know what to do with all of the cards I’ve been making, then I opened my April kit and am reconsidering my cancellation.

This months kit was a Mothers Day present and was so convenient.

The supplies

It came with everything you need to make a small framed picture.

Finished Project

The final product is pretty cute and I’m not sure if I should send it to my Mom or keep it for myself.

It also came with a cute gift wrapper you can assemble.

Paper Pumpkin April
Wrapped gift

This was a really cute little project and I’m wondering if they would send something for Father’s Day too.  (Dad is even harder to come up with ideas for!)  I’m considering re-subscribing for May.
