Stitch Fix June – A few keepers

Based on my last positive stitch fix experience I decided to give it another try.  Unfortunately the stylist who did a great job for me (Lindsey) was on vacation so I got another stylist that didn’t seem to read my past notes or get what I was looking for.  This time I asked for bright happy colors (check), and a focus on skirts and dresses (not check), and maybe a top that would go well with shorts (half check?).  Here’s what I got.

Urban Expressions – Adelade Woven Fold Over Clutch $48

Stitch Fix June 2015 review

I went back on forth on this one and debated it over night.  I normally would never use a clutch and don’t even own one, but I loved the feel of this bag.  It is classic with a great neutral color and the bag itself was just a great size for a night out.  In the end I decided to keep it since I don’t already have any clutches and I thought it would be good to have one on hand should the occasion ever present itself.

Renee C – Alecia Abstract Print Maxi Dress $68

With a jacket and the clutch

While I liked the pattern on this, the fabric was a bit itchy and almost iridescent, but the worst part was the fit.  A blousy top like that doesn’t look good on me and I need tops to accentuate my waist in order to flatter my pear shape.  This did nothing for my top or bottom half and a belt made it worse.  This went back.

Pixley – Abriella Waffle Knit Cardigan $48

Stitch Fix June 2015 reviewStitch Fix June 2015 review

This one gets filed under “what were they thinking?”  It was like a giant chenille bathrobe.  Great for 90 degree weather, no?  It was uncomfortable and unflattering and just a no all around.  I know I said no drapey cardigans in the past and this is definitely that.

Pixley – Edmond Chevron Print Henley Shirt $54

Stitch Fix June 2015 reviewStitch Fix June 2015 review

Something I can wear.  I like the soft knit of this top and wore it the next day for an impromptu trip to a nearby island (not the tropical kind, the kind that is surrounded by the Puget Sound and you go to in order to get away from 90 degree heat.)  This was a keeper.

THML – Rosalie Embroidery Panel Back Zip Tank $68

Stitch Fix June 2015 reviewStitch Fix June 2015 review

And again, No.  I also asked for no tanks or sleeveless tops and here we go.  This one had itchy fabric sides, and if I moved my arms away from my body I looked like a giant triangle.  Great for pear shapes, tops that make you look like a triangle.  Back it went.

Overall Impressions

While I didn’t really get dresses/skirts that I was looking for, I ended up with a clutch that I unexpectedly ended up falling in love with and a nice knit top to wear with shorts.  I still hold out hope that if I try again in July with Lindsey I’ll get some good pieces again.  Maybe I just haven’t loved the Golden Tote options lately so I have been wanting to get back into stitch fix.  I think I’ll give it another shot in July.

Stitch Fix – Revisited

After viewing what some other customers had been getting for their spring stitch fix, I decided that I would give it another try.  In November I had decided that it just wasn’t working for me and cancelled my monthly boxes but I wanted to see if their inventory had changed so I signed up for a single box in May.  In the comments I asked for a midi or maxi skirt, a colorful blouse and requested a pale pink top I had seen on someone else.

Here’s what I got.

Marlyn Schiff – Lia Pave Bead Necklace $34

At first glance I didn’t care for this necklace, but once I put it on I actually liked the look.

Didn’t love the color of this until I put it on and it is sooo soft and comfy!  It will be a great weekend shirt or casual workday shirt.

Fun2Fun – Marlena Abstract Print Tab Sleeve Blouse $48

Stitch Fix May 2015 Review

Stitch Fix May 2015 ReviewThis was the attempt at a “colorful blouse”.  I guess I need to be more specific and say “bright happy color blouse” which is really what I meant.  The colors in this are dull and neutral but when I put it on the fit was flattering and I like the print from a distance.

Brixon Ivy – Lex Textured Floral Knit Fit & Flare Dress  $74

Stitch Fix May 2015 Review

This is a nice fit and flare dress and I am in love with the colors.  Yellow is my favorite color so it was nice to see something in a shade I had kept requesting in the past.  I wish the neckline was a little higher because without the necklace it looks really bare and I feel more exposed than I’m comfortable with at work.  I’ll just pair it with a jacket on top for work I guess.

Gilli – Alanis Maxi Skirt $44

Stitch Fix May 2015 Review

So no midi skirts for me, but this maxi had a nice pattern.  The puzzle to me was why she sent it in a size small?  I had requested mediums for bottoms and this was an extremely form fitted bottom so why the size small???  I was really debating sending this one back, but it was comfortable and I found a top in my closet that really worked with it and ended up wearing it the next day to work.

Overall Impressions

Surprisingly I ended up keeping all of the items from this stitch fix!  At first glance I wasn’t thrilled with the picks, but once I started trying things on I ended up wanting to keep all of it.  Despite the success of this box I am not super jazzed about signing up for another one and would rather reserve my clothing budget for things like Golden Tote and Boden.  But for May I’m pretty happy with what I got.

PopSugar Must Have Box January2015

It’s been a while since I last posted but wanted to get a chance to share what was in my latest  PopSugar Must Have Box for January.

PopSugar Must Have Box January 2015

PopSugar Must Have Box January 2015

Jack and Lucy – Pom Pom Hat $32

PopSugar Must Have Box January 2015

The hat was pretty cute, but I had just bought a new hat before travelling for the holidays and one of my goals for this year is to purge my house of un-needed and un-used items I gave this away to a local charity.  Cute hat though.

First Aid Beauty – Ultra Repair Cream $28

PopSugar Must Have Box January 2015

This is a large jar of skin cream.  I’ve only used it once so far but should try to remember to use it again since my skin gets super dry in the winter.

KeepCup – Brew 12-oz Reuseable Coffee Cup  $26

PopSugar Must Have Box January 2015

While I don’t drink coffee, I do drink tea and this might be a cute way to travel with a hot beverage.  It’s currently sitting in my cupboard waiting to be used.

Manduka – eQua Hand Towel $16

PopSugar Must Have Box January 2015

This is a great compact towel for use during yoga, but I’ve never found myself in need of this when doing the type or relaxed pre-meditation yoga I do so I also gave this away.

ToGoSpa – Eyes $12.50

PopSugar Must Have Box January 2015

I’m saving these for a day when I want to just relax and pamper myself.  Seems like a cool idea.

Skin Jewel Tattoos – Empire $18

PopSugar Must Have Box January 2015

These are cool looking in the package but I haven’t used any of them yet.  Maybe when I go to Hawaii in the spring?

General Mills – Nature Valley Protein Granola $3.68

PopSugar Must Have Box January 2015

Peanut butter and chocolate?  Two of my favorite things!  I gave this a try but only ate a small amount because I started a low carb diet this month and this doesn’t exactly fit into that.  Pretty good tasting though.

Overall, the items in this box were okay.  It wasn’t my favorite box, but I also happened to be in a house purging mood so I got rid of items pretty quickly.  I’m still excited to see what February brings.  Maybe there will be a valentines theme?

PopSugar Must have box November + Thanksgiving Giveaway

I opened my November PopSugar box last night and was once again pleasantly surprised.  It was very heavy so I was excited to see what was adding all of the weight.

PopSugar Must Have Box November 2014

G.H. Cretors – Chicago Mix Popped Corn

PopSugar Must Have Box November 2014

This was the first thing I pulled out of the box in excitement.  I am a huge fan of Chicago style popcorn and get it locally from Kukuruza.  I’ve had this brand before too, and it’s pretty good.  (Nothing beats fresh warm chicago style popcorn though!)

Tiny Prints – Thoughtful Heart Stationary

PopSugar Must Have Box November 2014

This stationary was designed by the curator of PopSugar and is pretty cute.  I like having notecards on hand for any occasion.

Wine Glass Writer

PopSugar Must Have Box November 2014This is a cool idea.  I’ll definitely be using these when my in-laws are here for Thanksgiving so we can identify our glasses.

K. Hall Simpatico – Ambergris Shea Butter Cream

PopSugar Must Have Box November 2014

This one was really confusing to me.  The package had a whale on it and said something about a whale product, but it turns out its a vegan cream so I’m not sure why the whale?  My husband told me that Ambergris is actually whale vomit and was used by perfume manufactures, so I looked it up on Wikipedia and he was right.  (Gross!) It looks like this product does not contain it though.

Simon & Schuster – The Secret Recipes

PopSugar Must Have Box November 2014

This was written by the pastry chef behind the Cronut.  (It’s also what was adding the weight to the box.)  It would make a pretty coffee table book (I do not have a coffee table) and it’s pretty to look through.  There are recipes at the back so maybe I’ll try something.  I just got done making cake pops this weekend and have plans to make an apple pie for Thanksgiving so it won’t be soon.  🙂

and finally…

Thanksgiving Giveaway (Winner selected)

The last item that came in this box is a wallet on a chain, which I unfortunately have no use for.  I just recently purchased a Vera Bradley purse in order to give myself more room for my things, so this is definitely not going to cut it for me.  It is lovely though and a nice shade of blue so I thought I’d give a reader a chance to score it for free.

Sorial – Saffiano Wallet on a Chain

PopSugar Must Have Box November 2014

Winner Selected:  Congrats to trrsmile, I’ve contacted you to get your contact info and will get the wallet on a chair out to you early this week as soon as I get your address.

If I don’t hear from her by Tuesday night, I’ll select another winner.  Thanks!

August PopSugar Must Have Box Review

The August PopSugar Must Have box arrived and it’s just as great as the previous two!  I think this is my favorite subscription box because they send a nice variety of items and I end up trying new things that I wouldn’t have otherwise tried.

August PopSugar Must Have Box Review

Here is a breakdown of the items.

Lollia – At Last Perfumed Shower Gel

This has a nice fresh fragrance which is what I tend to go for.  I like warm soapy smells and this is very pleasant.  Plus the packaging is adorable!

The Mason Jar Cookie Company – Celebrate!

Mmmmm cookies… (channeling my inner Homer) I’ve never tried one of these before but it sounds delicious!

These aren’t something I would have necessarily picked on my own, but they are definitely pretty and I’ll wear them next week.

Goodbyn – Purple Meal and Dipper Set

I’m not sure how secure the lid is on this, but I like the idea of having a separate dipper container that fits into the main container.  I often take dip or hummus to work for my carrots or pita chips.

Paddywax – Ocean Tide + Sea Salt Mini Jar Candle

August PopSugar Must Have Box Review
Zen

This candle has a pretty blue jar and the smell is very relaxing and zen.

Bite Beauty – Lush Fruit Lip

August PopSugar Must Have Box Review
lip gloss

I love Bite Beauty lipstick and they partnered with Popsugar to make a special color.  It’s a bright shade of pink but I will definitely try it.  I’ve become a fan of lipgloss lately and this should be a nice summery shade.

Bonus Item – Think Thin Brownie Crunch High Protein Bar

August PopSugar Must Have Box Review
Protein!

With a vegetarian diet I often find myself scrambling to get enough protein in the day and with 20 grams of protein this bar packs a punch!  It does have 230 calories but it’s worth it for the protein.

If you’re interested in signing up for the PopSugar Must Have Box, the cost is $39.95 a month with free shipping and you can use the code REFER5 to get $5 off your first box.

Golden Tote August Review

My Golden Tote for August arrived last week, but I was busy taking care of my nephew for 5 days and didn’t get a chance to open it until last night.  (It is a nice reward after a week of entertaining a 9 year old boy!) 🙂

Here’s what I got this month:

Golden Tote August Review
Golden Tote August 2014

I really like the design on the tote this month.  I’m not sure what to do with all of the cute totes I’ve gotten from them.  I wonder if people have creative ideas?

Here are the two items I picked:

Golden Tote August Review

I think they sent me one of the wrong cards.  I did get the striped summer swing dress, but my other item was the red kimono, not the fringed one.  Maybe they just had one card for kimonos?

Golden Tote August Review

Hanging up it’s just a rather shapeless dress, but I had seen it on one of the models with a cute skinny red belt which I didn’t happen to have, but I do have a wide red belt and I think the result is nice.

Golden Tote August Review

You can’t tell from the picture, but it’s actually a little longer in back and it’s SO comfortable.  I love all of the knits I got in this month’s tote.

Golden Tote August Review
Red Kimono

I had been wanting a kimono for some time and the red color on this one really stood out to me.

Golden Tote August Review

I might play around with different ways to wear it because this is just okay.  Maybe with heels?  Black skinny jeans?

Then there were four surprise items.

Golden Tote August Review
Priddy Striped Dress

I think this was my favorite surprise item.  This will be a great dress to wear in the fall with a military style jacket and later with tights and boots.  It’s also cute just by itself for late summer.

Golden Tote August Review

This is my next favorite.

Golden Tote August Review
Fantastic Fawn dolman sleeve shirt

Again, this is super soft and drapey and very comfortable.

Golden Tote August ReviewGolden Tote August Review

I like the cute back details.

The next item is another tank, but it’s not too loose and the colors are easy to pair with other items.

Golden Tote August Review
Collective Concepts Tank

Golden Tote August Review

I think I saw someone get this in a Stitch Fix.  I know they send out Collective Concepts brand items so it’s possible.

Then the last item is my least favorite.

Golden Tote August Review
Renee C. cocoon cardigan
Golden Tote August Review
Batwings!

I just couldn’t get it to lay very nicely and have no idea how to wear it.  Since it’s one of those items I will never reach for in my already crowded closet I think I’ll do a giveaway with this item.  I’m going on a trip next week and will be out of town so I’ll do the giveaway when I get back.

Overall Impressions

I really liked this Golden Tote and felt that it was very much worth the $149 for the 5 items I really loved.  I was very happy with the surprises this time and all of the cozy soft fabrics.
