I had thought the tobacco color would be more mustard as it looked in the catalog and online, but in person it was much more brown. I still really liked the patterns and colors though so I’m keeping both.
The August PopSugar Must Have box arrived and it’s just as great as the previous two! I think this is my favorite subscription box because they send a nice variety of items and I end up trying new things that I wouldn’t have otherwise tried.
Here is a breakdown of the items.
Lollia – At Last Perfumed Shower Gel
This has a nice fresh fragrance which is what I tend to go for. I like warm soapy smells and this is very pleasant. Plus the packaging is adorable!
The Mason Jar Cookie Company – Celebrate!
Mmmmm cookies… (channeling my inner Homer) I’ve never tried one of these before but it sounds delicious!
Kendra Scott – Elle Earrings in Slate
These aren’t something I would have necessarily picked on my own, but they are definitely pretty and I’ll wear them next week.
Goodbyn – Purple Meal and Dipper Set
I’m not sure how secure the lid is on this, but I like the idea of having a separate dipper container that fits into the main container. I often take dip or hummus to work for my carrots or pita chips.
Paddywax – Ocean Tide + Sea Salt Mini Jar Candle
This candle has a pretty blue jar and the smell is very relaxing and zen.
Bite Beauty – Lush Fruit Lip
I love Bite Beauty lipstick and they partnered with Popsugar to make a special color. It’s a bright shade of pink but I will definitely try it. I’ve become a fan of lipgloss lately and this should be a nice summery shade.
Bonus Item – Think Thin Brownie Crunch High Protein Bar
With a vegetarian diet I often find myself scrambling to get enough protein in the day and with 20 grams of protein this bar packs a punch! It does have 230 calories but it’s worth it for the protein.
If you’re interested in signing up for the PopSugar Must Have Box, the cost is $39.95 a month with free shipping and you can use the code REFER5 to get $5 off your first box.
My Golden Tote for August arrived last week, but I was busy taking care of my nephew for 5 days and didn’t get a chance to open it until last night. (It is a nice reward after a week of entertaining a 9 year old boy!) 🙂
Here’s what I got this month:
I really like the design on the tote this month. I’m not sure what to do with all of the cute totes I’ve gotten from them. I wonder if people have creative ideas?
Here are the two items I picked:
I think they sent me one of the wrong cards. I did get the striped summer swing dress, but my other item was the red kimono, not the fringed one. Maybe they just had one card for kimonos?
Hanging up it’s just a rather shapeless dress, but I had seen it on one of the models with a cute skinny red belt which I didn’t happen to have, but I do have a wide red belt and I think the result is nice.
You can’t tell from the picture, but it’s actually a little longer in back and it’s SO comfortable. I love all of the knits I got in this month’s tote.
I had been wanting a kimono for some time and the red color on this one really stood out to me.
I might play around with different ways to wear it because this is just okay. Maybe with heels? Black skinny jeans?
Then there were four surprise items.
I think this was my favorite surprise item. This will be a great dress to wear in the fall with a military style jacket and later with tights and boots. It’s also cute just by itself for late summer.
This is my next favorite.
Again, this is super soft and drapey and very comfortable.
I like the cute back details.
The next item is another tank, but it’s not too loose and the colors are easy to pair with other items.
I think I saw someone get this in a Stitch Fix. I know they send out Collective Concepts brand items so it’s possible.
Then the last item is my least favorite.
I just couldn’t get it to lay very nicely and have no idea how to wear it. Since it’s one of those items I will never reach for in my already crowded closet I think I’ll do a giveaway with this item. I’m going on a trip next week and will be out of town so I’ll do the giveaway when I get back.
I really liked this Golden Tote and felt that it was very much worth the $149 for the 5 items I really loved. I was very happy with the surprises this time and all of the cozy soft fabrics.
Sigh. I think the only way to sum this month’s Stitch Fix up is with an emoticon.
Pomelo – Aggie Sleeveless Side Gathered Striped Maxi Dress $68
I had actually seen this dress on the blog and thought it looked cute, so I was excited to see it.
And then I see it on. Nothing about this worked. My bra straps were visible, the pattern did nothing for my shape, and it clung to every lump and bump on my body.
Kensie Jeans – Kaleigh Ankle Biter Skinny Jean $88
Red jeans! Something I’ve wanted forever! The fabric is stretchy and the color is exactly what I wanted. Let’s see what they look like on.
Annnnd no. Skin tight, low rise, and just terrible. What a disaster. The best part is the stylist called these “Straight Fit” when the label clearly called them skinny fit.
Under Skies – Simran Solid French Terry Moto Jacket $78
I had asked for a “lightweight summer jacket I could wear with dresses and tops in the air conditioned office.” This jacket is a very non-neutral color and is most definitely not light weight. It was a heavy sweater material.
On, it is just okay. But I don’t love it and it doesn’t fill any gaps in my current wardrobe so back it goes.
Skies are Blue – Alexa Embroidery Detailed Tank $48
Then there are tanks. Again. Which I’ve asked them to stop sending.
It’s cute on the hanger.
And makes me look pregnant. This is where the stylist was WAY off. She said she sent me some tops to flatter my pear shape that are tight at the top then get wider at the bottom. That is the OPPOSITE of what is flattering for a pear shape. Any blog or fashion article or anything you read says pear shapes should wear fitted tops to accentuate the waist. This shape only makes my natural shape worse and makes me look incredibly large.
Going back. (Seeing a trend….?)
19 Cooper – Lanea Graphic Print Racerback Tank $58
And a big fat no. Again, this is terrible for my shape and makes me look pregnant and fat.
I did not get my usual stylist this time (Cody) and the new one really missed what I was asking for with these picks. The tops were terrible and unflattering, and the pants were way too tight. The dress I will take the blame for since I added it to my pinterest page, but nothing else was good. Everything is going back which means I am out $20, but I wasn’t keeping any of these items just to not lose out on the $20 so I’m just plain out.
I considered cancelling my September fix all together, but instead I scheduled it for further out and asked for absolutely no tank tops and no loose flowy tops like that. I’d love to see another pants option with a higher waist and not super skinny fit.
I’ve been wearing a lot of dresses this week to work and got a chance to wear two of my new favorite Boden dresses. Both of the Boden dresses are currently on clearance and stocks are dwindling, but I highly recommend both.
I got this dress in the Blue Riviera pattern and I just love the fit. The pattern is super cute in person and the dress is soft and flowy. Perfect for a summer day with a cardigan thrown over it for the office.
