Adorable Felt Reindeer

I haven’t done any “what I’ve made” posts lately, but thought I’d share this adorable holiday craft.  It’s a felt reindeer that took a while to make but was totally worth it.  I got the pattern on Etsy from CynthiaTreenStudio and love her stuff.

Felted Reindeer Felted Reindeer Felted ReindeerI sent the second one to my Mom and she loved it.  I was planning to make two more for my mother in law and sister in law but just ran out of time.  It was fun and the end result was totally worth it.

For the Makers May Review

This month’s For the Makers kit was called Toketee.

For the Makers Toketee

I looked it up on Wikipedia and found that Toketee is a Chinook Jargon word meaning “pretty” or “graceful”.

Here’s what was included:

For the Makers ToketeeThere was a necklace, earrings, tea towel, and wall pegs.

I probably had the most fun with the tea towel.  You needed to first cut out foam shapes and attach them to the ends of a cork.  I decided on a triangle pattern, a chevron type pattern, and two parallel lines.

The other painting project were these wall pegs.  I made these using blue painters tape to form the lines.

Of the two jewelry projects, I really liked the necklace and have already worn it with a red maxi dress.

Overall this was a pretty cool kit and I had fun making all of the projects.  Can’t wait to see what is in store for June!

Darby Smart May Review

This months Darby Smart DIY kit was not my favorite.

Darby Smart MayIt was a kit to make lip and mustache candies on a stick.  Clever, but I don’t really like white chocolate and wouldn’t bother making these again.

They turned out okay, but as I said I wasn’t a fan of the actual candies.

Since I had cancelled my Paper Pumpkin subscription, I went ahead and splurged on a second Darby Smart kit this month that had caught my eye.  It was a canvas bag that you decorate with gold studs.  I love the design and the bag itself is pretty great.

For the Makers April Review

This Month’s For the Makers collection was called “Soft Focus” and was all about dyeing things with kool-aid.

For the Makers April For the Makers April The four projects were a necklace, 3 string bracelets, an air plant holder (no plant) and 5 note cards.

Overall, I spent a few hours on the projects and made a small mess.  I ended up making the bracelets more saturated with color because I’m not a huge fan of pastels, but they might have looked cuter in pastel.

I did end up buying an air plant from a local craft store and that is now hanging in my office.

Final product

Overall it was a pretty fun kit, but I’m unsure about the value.  The supplies are all very cheap and none of the projects took all that much time.  I still enjoy getting a craft box each month so I will continue with this subscription.

Paper Pumpkin April

Just this morning I decided to cancel my Paper Pumpkin subscription because I don’t know what to do with all of the cards I’ve been making, then I opened my April kit and am reconsidering my cancellation.

This months kit was a Mothers Day present and was so convenient.

It came with everything you need to make a small framed picture.

The final product is pretty cute and I’m not sure if I should send it to my Mom or keep it for myself.

It also came with a cute gift wrapper you can assemble.

This was a really cute little project and I’m wondering if they would send something for Father’s Day too.  (Dad is even harder to come up with ideas for!)  I’m considering re-subscribing for May.

April’s box came and I was excited to see what it was when I felt the weight of the box.

It turned out to be a metal stamping kit.  I loved the idea of making a stamped necklace and pulled out a rug and piece of cardboard to protect my floor.  I decided to go with Yoga/Zen themes for my pendants.

I simply marked out where I wanted each letter to go and taped it to the metal block.

I actually wanted the one on the right to say “Breathe” but it didn’t fit and I had poor planning.  🙂

Darby Smart remains one of my favorite boxes for their diversity of projects.  They vary greatly and introduce me to new mediums.  I am happy to continue with this subscription.  Next up this weekend : For the Makers and Paper Pumpkin.
