September Outfits

This is a great weekend to do some online shopping.  All of my favorite sites are having big sales.  (Boden 20% off everything and Loft 40% off everything.)

Here are some of the things I’ve been wearing this month.

Golden Tote Swing Dress
Golden Tote Swing Dress without a jacket

I love this swing dress from Golden Tote just as much as the white one with black stripes.  For work I paired it with these nude sandals and a long necklace then wore a jacket on top when I was in the air conditioning.

Loft Scuba Flare Skirt
Flare Skirt from Loft

I love this new skirt I got from Loft.  The fit is flattering for my body type so I bought it in two colors.  The blouse is sooo soft and my favorite mustard color.  The boots are new and I bought them specifically to wear with fall skirts and dresses.

Dr Scholls Bethany Wedge Bootie DSW $69.95

Boden Sweater and Loft Skirt

This is the same skirt but in camel color, paired with my new hotchpotch sweater from boden and a different pair of booties that I love.  I had these boots in black last fall and wore them a lot, so this fall I bought the same ones in brown.

Leather Look
Leather Look from London

I got this blue top from Dorothy Perkins in London and saw the outfit idea on a mannequin there.  I knew I had the leather jacket and boots so just pulled the look together when I got home.  (I can’t find the top online, but they do have a website.)

Coral Sweater and Blue Blouse

I saw an outfit similar to this on the Stitch Fix blog (see below) and thought I’d try to reproduce it with a top I got from Stitch Fix and a coral sweater from Old Navy.

September Golden Tote Review

My September Golden Tote has arrived, and the packaging was a little different.  This time, none of the items were in bags, but were instead held together with a stretchy headband (similar to what Stitch Fix does)

Golden Tote Review SeptemberThe two items I had picked were on the bottom so I’ll start with those.

Chic Front Pocket Jacket in Peach

I attempted to style this similar to what they did on the card.  I didn’t have a necklace like on the card but I’m sure I can dig up something similar.  I just got these metallic pink ballet flats from Amazon and thought they worked with the outfit.  The jacket is soft and comfortable so I imagine I’ll be able to wear it a lot.

Plaid Button Down Shirt in Red

For some reason I was expecting this one to be flannel (didn’t read the description) but it’s actually just a cotton plaid shirt.  I like the roll sleeves and it’s got a nice slim cut to it.  I’ve seen some ideas for how to wear it on pinterest (black jeans, jean jacket) so I’ll be sure to wear it soon.

Then here are my four surprise items.

 Hem & Thread Dolman Top

Golden Tote September ReviewGolden Tote September Review

This was probably my least favorite surprise item.  The top is pretty short and rides up when you move, but it’s very comfortable and the colors are interesting.  I’ll wear it on a weekend sometime and see how comfortable it is.

 Skies are Blue Lace Top

This was totally something you’d find at Anthropologie with a big price tag.  I like the lace front and roll sleeves.  Easy piece to layer with.

 Le Lis Mixed Media Sweatshirt

The front of the sweatshirt is super soft and it’s very cozy.  The only thing I don’t like about it is how wide the neck is.  If I’m wearing something warm like this, I don’t want a wide open neck to make me feel cold.  I saw ideas on the blog to wear this with a chambray shirt underneath, so I may do that to stay warm.

Priddy Knit Pants with Faux Leather Waistband

Again, these are super cozy and comfortable, but styling them will be a challenge.  The  blog suggested a tank and cardigan or a tank and high heels.  I’m not sure I can make them look dressy, but I’ll see what I can make work because they are sooo comfortable.

Overall Impressions

I was pretty happy with almost every item in this tote.  I got a bunch of great fall pieces and fashionable items that I would not have picked for myself.  I was a bit disappointed I didn’t get the plaid tee that some people were getting as a surprise item, but what I got was pretty good too.  I think Golden Tote is a great value for $149.

Popsugar Must Have Box September

My September PopSugar Must Have box arrived with its usual fun surprises.

Popsugar Must Have Box September

Here is the breakdown of the 8 items.

Tilo Scarves

Popsugar Must Have Box September

This is a modal graduation scarf which you can’t tell from the picture, but it goes from dark grey to light grey to a nice raisin color.  Very lightweight and soft.

Nicole Miller Stereo Earbuds

Popsugar Must Have Box SeptemberThese are pretty nice looking and have a answer/end call or play/pause music button built into the earbuds themselves.

Urban Remedy Almond Brownie

Popsugar Must Have Box SeptemberThis looks very… natural?  Not sure how it will taste, especially since its Gluten Free but I’ll give it a try.

Oribe Superfine Purse Size Hair Spray

Popsugar Must Have Box September

I rarely use hair spray, but I’ll give this a try next time I do.  It’s a nice small size that I could use for travel if I wanted to.

Letter C Design Gold Foil Arrow Pencils and Sharpener

Popsugar Must Have Box September

Cute pencils, but I don’t know what I’d use them for.  Maybe I’ll give them to my niece?

Alternative designs

If I remember correctly, this designer did a collaboration with Kate Spade a while back and had some cute designs.  I like the top notecard.  Very cute for when I want to send a little personalized note.

Ghiradelli Milk Chocolate Sea Salt & Almond Minis

Popsugar Must Have Box September
Yummmmm!

Be still my beating heart!  These are quite delicious.

Nike $20 Gift Card

Popsugar Must Have Box September

This is a $20 gift card meant to be used towards a new Nike Pro bra.  The presentation was very cute with the black envelope and bright green measuring tape.  I probably won’t use this because I went to the website to look, and the new Nike Pro bras run around $65 or so.  I don’t really need a new sports bra, but this would have been cool if I currently needed something.

If you’re interested in signing up for the PopSugar Must Have Box, the cost is $39.95 a month with free shipping and you can use the code REFER5 to get $5 off your first box.

Stitch Fix September Review

My September Stitch Fix came on Friday and this one was a bit better than the last.

Stitch Fix September Review
Latest Fix

This time I had requested more pants to try and some color.  I don’t think the stylists understand what I mean when I request color because she commented on the fact that these items were colorful.  Aside from the red jeans, I see grey and white, white and blue, and some very muted green and navy.  To me this is very dull and neutral, which is fine sometimes but doesn’t really say “colorful” to me.  Stitch Fix just posted some new items to their pinterest page in Mustard, Teal and Burgundy and I would have been thrilled with a pop of mustard or teal.  Oh well, maybe next time.

Infinity Scarf

I’m just not a huge fan of infinity scarves, and this one was very bulky.  I have items similar to it in my closet already so I’m passing on this one.

Margaret M – Duboce Straight Leg Jean  $68

I don’t understand how these could possibly be considered “straight leg” jeans when they are skin tight.  I’d call these skinny jeans and don’t understand what happened to actual straight leg jeans.  They were somewhat flattering on and actually fit pretty well, but my one complaint is they were lacking a zipper or a fly so they need to be pulled up over your hips and bottom.  I happen to be down a few pounds right now, but I have a feeling if I gain any weight I won’t be able to pull these on anymore.  I kept them because I desperately wanted red jeans and they were somewhat flattering, but I am worried about the lack of zipper.

Verdict – keep

Olive & Oak – Mulliken Raglan Striped Knit Shirt  $48

While I like the style of the top and the colors were fine, I didn’t care for the neckline.  It just sort of looked stretched out and the fabric was rather clingy and unflattering.  For the price I sent it back since I can get a cute baseball tee at Gap for a fraction of the price.

Pomelo – Moni Stud Detailed 3/4 sleeve blouse  $58

I’ve seen this blouse in other people’s fixes and have wanted it for a while so I was happy to see this.  The color is bright and the styling is nice.

This just felt sloppy on.  It was a little large and baggy on me and I didn’t care for it opened and wouldn’t want to have to wear it zipped all of the time.

Overall Impressions

Overall I ended up keeping two items from this fix, the red jeans and the blue blouse.  I’m happy the stylist was able to find me red jeans that worked, but still wish they weren’t so tight and wish they had a fly with a zipper.  I had honestly been considering dropping stitch fix for a while, but with the new post about mustard being a trend I’m really hoping I’ll get a mustard colored item in my October fix so I’ll try again.

Kimono tops

I’ve noticed that Kimono tops seem to be the latest trend.  I had gotten a few from Golden Tote as chosen options, and one as a surprise item.  Then when I was in London earlier this month I kept seeing them in stores and a lot of the girls around the city were wearing them.  I love how easy they are to throw on over a tank or tee, and in the winter I plan to wear them with a long sleeve tee underneath to stay warm.  Here are the two I got from Golden Tote and how I wore them to work.

Kimono top

With this one I went with more of a zen vibe and wore my Tibetan prayer mala necklace and a turquoise ring.  It was a warm day so I was okay with just a tank underneath.

red kimonoThen with the red one I decided to wear a slouchy navy tee underneath, along with my boyfriend jeans and a necklace and some earrings I had made from a “For the Makers” box.  In the air conditioning I was cold so in the future I’ll probably wear long sleeves with this one unless I can be outside or in the sun.

Second August Golden Tote + Giveaway

Because I loved the swing dress from my first Golden Tote in August so much, I decided to order a second single item tote with the blue dress as my chosen item.

This is the blue dress I chose:

Without a belt

This one I plan to wear without a belt.  Here I’ve paired it with a pair of nude patent leather pumps and a long necklace. I love the color and shape of this dress.  The fabric on the blue one was a bit heavier than the white with black stripes one I got previously, but it will work nicely for the fall.

Here was the surprise item:

I think it looks nice on (despite needing a good iron) but since I already have the red kimono offered in this tote plus a white one from a previous tote, I don’t think I’ll end up wearing it.  Therefore I’d like to do another giveaway this month.

August Tote Giveaway Winners Picked

Congrats to Kristen and Kathy the winners of the kimono and cardigan.  Once I get their addresses I’ll put the items in the mail this weekend.

Thanks for all of your entries.

The two items I’m giving away are the colorful kimono, and the cocoon sweater from my first August tote:
