Week of Polka Dots Comes to an End

I was almost able to finish out my week of polka dots, but ran out of viable options after Thursday.  This was the new red with white polka dot dress I wore on Thursday.  Red with white polka dots, being my second favorite pattern right after navy with white.

Heart shaped polka dots?

I feel like this still counts for my week of polka dots, but they are heart shaped so it’s a stretch.  I got tired of my usual pose and decided to try out the “fashion magazine model” pose.  I don’t know why you see so many models posing this way, because it’s incredibly awkward and not something you’d ever do in your day to day life, and yet if you want to make clothes look high fashion, simply turn our your elbows!

The dress is from Old Navy from a few years back, and so is the cardigan.  I love the color combination of black and white plus green.  The dress is super lightweight and was good for the 80 degree weather we had today.

Polka Dots Part 2

I didn’t even realize it when I picked this dress out yesterday morning, but it also has polka dots.  Maybe I’ll try for a week of polka dots?  I bought this dress last year from Shabby Apple and love the adorable Peter Pan collar and swingy skirt.  (See the second “action” photo.)  The lovely mint color is set off by the white polka dots and I felt a bit like a walking confection.  The fitted upper half combined with the swingy skirt work perfect for a pear shape and helped to balance me out.  I love this dress.

Crazy for polka dots

Whenever I see an item of clothing that has polka dots on it, I am tempted to immediately snatch it up, regardless of size or shape.  If it happens to be navy with white polka dots, I think I go a little crazy.  I don’t know why or what from my childhood may have influenced my love of these little dots, but it is my favorite pattern hands down.  (Even my wallet sports a nice tan with black polka dots pattern.)

When I tried on this navy polka dot top from Modcloth last night, I knew I had to wear it the very next day.  Not only was the pattern lovely, but the cut is a nice peplum shape and the fabric drapes nicely.  I paired it with a wide brown leather belt, my white linen blazer from Nordstrom, some cute red sandals and voila!  Perfect outfit to beat the Monday blues.   Did it make my day a little more awesome?  I’d like to think so.

Striped cardigan

I’ve had this outfit sitting in my closet for a while, but was waiting for the right weather/mood to wear it.  The skirt is a stretchy corduroy fabric in a nice off white color, paired with a navy silky tee and a striped cardigan.   I’m also wearing the necklace from my first stitch fix.

I like the overall look of the outfit, and found the skirt to be flattering for a pear shape since it hugged me at my widest part, then had a straight silhouette to the hem.  The stretchy fabric made it comfortable and easy to wear, and even though it was a bit on the shorter side I still felt relatively comfortable at work.  (That was until I tried to get into the backseat of someone’s two door car when we headed out for lunch.)  Aside from a minor mishap of completely missing the seat and potentially exposing more of myself than intended, I felt comfortable and put together for the rest of the day.

Accordion skirt

Today started out partly cloudy and warm, and ended up rainy and dark.  In the morning I was still hopeful about the weather so I grabbed a bright yellow blouse and my ink blue accordion skirt.  Looking at these two items on the hanger, I didn’t expect them to work for my figure, but surprisingly the blouse is balanced out with the pleats of the skirt and the necklace helps to elongate the look.

(Sorry for the grainy photo, I had to take it indoors due to the rain.)
