Stitch Fix July Review

My July Stitch Fix came Friday and I was pretty pleased.

Stitch Fix July Review
The Goods

Once again, I’m seeing mostly blue and some black and white but with a pop of green.  Where are the colors??

Gorjana – Corinna Delicate Bar Necklace $60

Stitch Fix July Review
Delicate gold necklace

I tried this necklace on and fell in love before I looked at the price.  When I saw it was $60 I was a little shocked and thought about returning it for that reason, but I felt that it was a very classic piece that could be worn with many outfits and decided to keep it.

Mystree – Silvia Mixed Material Knit Shirt $28

Stitch Fix July ReviewStitch Fix July Review

Stitch Fix July ReviewThis was a uniquely patterned top and despite the fact that it was black and white (and I had said no black and no blue on my profile) I like the pattern and cut, plus the price was right on this one, so I am keeping it.

Tart – Daryn Batik Print Jersey Knit Top $74

What you’re not seeing is that it has a super deep v-back.

Stitch Fix July Review

The pattern and cut in the front are cute, but the super deep v in the back (why??) and the built in bra made me definitely want to return it.  Why would you have a nice modest cut in the front then dip so low in the back?  Plus the price was pretty ridiculous for a knit top.  Going back.

Pomelo – Brentwood Space Dye Tiered Tank $58

Another tank

This top is a gorgeous color and an interesting cut.  I wasn’t sure how it would look on my pear shaped body, but it seems to accentuate my waist rather than emphasize the hips which I was worried about.  I think it will be super cute under a cropped jacket.  Because of the color and unique cut, I’m keeping this one.

LA MADE – Felix Sleeveless Fitted Maxi Dress  $88

Noooo!!!!!

This dress is obscenely clingy and made me look like I had a really weird gut.  You could even see the outline of my belly button.  Very awful.  Going back right away.

Overall Impressions

I see that my stylist did not look at my comments at all this time.  I had asked for a lightweight summer jacket, maybe some bottoms, no more tank tops, and had specifically said no black or blue.  I’m hoping that she reads the comments for August, but won’t hold my breath.  Despite that, I ended up with two cute tops and a necklace that I like, so overall I’m pretty pleased.  I still adore Stitch Fix despite the last few misses.

UrthBox July Review

I had recently decided to try one of the snack subscription boxes and Urthbox seemed like an interesting one to me.  You can choose from 3 sized boxes (small 7-10 products, medium 12-15, or large 20-24) then you can select the type of box (Classic, Vegan, Gluten Free, or Diet) and the length of time you’d like to commit to.  I chose the Classic medium box for 3 months.

Here’s what came in July for my first box.

Urthbox July Review
Energy Snacks

I am not sure why they included these two products.  One was an energy drink that had organic ingredients, and the other was what my husband referred to as “trucker candy” that you see in truck stops.  Just because there are organic ingredients doesn’t mean something is good for you.  I cut caffeine out of my diet a while back for health reasons and would not ever ingest either of these products so in the trash they went.

Various crunchy snacks

I’m excited about the snap peas, the baked chips and the popcorn.  Last night I tried the roasted seaweed (disgusting!), the seaweed chips (also disgusting!) and the beet chips (didn’t disappoint with disgusting) and promptly threw all three of those in the trash.  I can’t stand the smell of seaweed, because it reminds me of the disgusting stuff you see washed up on the beach.  It tasted like it smelled.

The thai coconut curry popcorn was interesting.  Not something I’d purchase again, but interesting.

Drinks

Then there were these drink items.  I tried the Mama Chia squeeze pouch last night to wash away the taste of all the seaweed and beets, and it was pretty good.  I’ve been on a chia seed kick lately so I liked that one.  I might have the protein smoothie mix for breakfast some day.  I’m not sure about the small packet of drink mix because it was loaded with chemicals.  Again, yes it had some organic ingredients, but it was loaded with a ton of weird stuff too and I just don’t need all those excess ingredients.  I’m trying to eat more “real” foods.

Cookies and bar

I’m not sure about the “nutrition bar” but I’ll give it a try, and the vanilla cookies were pretty good.  I can get excited about cookies.

So overall, there were 14 snacks; 2 that I threw away right out of the box, 4 that were disgusting, 2 that were okay, and 6 more to try.  Since I got a good deal on Gilt I don’t mind, but I’m not sure I’d pay full price for this subscription.  We’ll see what August and September bring.

I Love my July Golden Tote

When they released the previews for the July Golden Tote, I knew that I had to have the polka dot top.  I was undecided between the green and blue version because they were both so cute.  When the tote was released, I didn’t really care for any of the other items (far too skimpy or revealing for me) so I just got the $49 tote and chose the blue polka dot top.

My surprise item was this adorable coral maxi dress.  I absolutely LOVE it!

Overall, it was definitely worth the $49.  I love both items and will definitely be wearing them soon.  This month’s tote was a great value and I love both items.

Golden Tote June Review

June’s Golden Tote arrived yesterday and here’s what I got.

Golden Tote JuneI got the $149 tote and the two items I picked this time were the striped dress and the blue palazzo pants.

Comme Toi Striped Dress

Golden Tote June

I had been really excited about this dress because it is knit, the pattern is cute, and it seemed long enough for work.  Unfortunately, the gathering at the waist hits just below my bust (not at all where my waist is) and it looks frumpy and weird.  I was sadly disappointed until my husband came upstairs and said it was cute.  I guess I’ll wear it on the weekend at some point, but I don’t think it really did anything for my figure.  (The belt is mine from Ann Taylor Loft.)

Renee C Palazzo Pants

I had been wanting a pair of pants in this style for a while now, and when I saw them as an option for the June Golden Tote I had to have them.  I ordered the blue color.  Unfortunately I had forgotten that I probably wanted a size Large in these in order to be roomy enough in the thighs/bum and the Medium is a bit on the snug side clinging just a bit too much.  I think I can still pull them off but wish I had done a size bigger.

Here I paired them with a chambray shirt, but I think they’d look cute with a black tee and a long necklace.  I’ll probably need platform sandals since they are a bit long.

I also got 4 Surprise Items.

Fantastic Fawn Blue DressGolden Tote June

I really liked this dress on, maybe even better than the striped one I had picked out, but unfortunately the picture turned out super blurry.

Miss Love Lace Top

This picture doesn’t do the top justice, it’s actually really cute on.  I paired it with the next surprise item:

Priddy Black Pants

Golden Tote June

These are stretchy knit pants and are SOOO comfortable.  They might not be super flattering, but I don’t care because I want to live in them now.

Golden Tote June

For this picture, I paired them with the next surprise item:

Porridge Blue Print Top

Golden Tote JuneAnd this is the item I won’t bee keeping.  On me this was way to open at the top and it bloused out and was not flattering.

Winner of the June Giveaway

Congratulations to the winner of the June Giveaway, Sara E. from Indiana.

I’ll be sending out the top this weekend, so watch your mailbox.  🙂

PopSugar June Box Review

I seem to be getting addicted to subscription boxes.  The latest one I heard about and signed up for is called the PopSugar Must Have Box.  It will include hand-selected items in beauty, fashion, home, fitness and food.  They are full size products and the cost is $39.95 a month with free shipping.  You can use the code REFER5 to get $5 off your first box.

PopSugar June Must Have Box

I wasn’t sure what to expect with the first box since the April and May boxes seemed pretty different.  I was very pleasantly surprised.

PopSugar June Must Have Box

In total there were 6 items and a $15 voucher for a store I had never heard of before.

Hardcover Novel – The One & Only by Emily Giffin

PopSugar June Must Have BoxThis book kept popping up as a suggestion for me on GoodReads and Amazon so I’m excited to see it in this box.  I probably wouldn’t have bought it myself because I usually wait for the paperback version of a book, but hopefully it’s a good summer read.

Turkish-T Beach Towel/Wrap

PopSugar June Must Have Box

I probably would use this more as a wrap then a beach towel, but I love the colors and it is super soft.  Another great item!

SACHAJUAN Shiny Citrus Body Lotion

PopSugar June Must Have Box

I haven’t used this yet, but it smelled very nice and fresh like a summer day.

You Smell – Lemon Wet Wipes

PopSugar June Must Have Box

I love the name of these.  They seem like super fancy wet wipes, but I’ll stow a few in my bag for while I’m out and about.  (Never know when you need a wet wipe.)

Lollies – Basic Hair Ties

PopSugar June Must Have BoxLove the colors and they will look cute on my wrist where I usually wear a hair tie in case I want to pull my hair back at some point during the day.

One Potato Two Potato – Hawaiian BBQ

PopSugar June Must Have Box

I’m sure I’ll be digging into these later when I’m craving my night time snack.  I love Hawaiian BBQ chips.

Native Union – $15 Voucher

PopSugar June Must Have Box

I checked out their website and it is mostly pricey hipster tech accessories.  Since I don’t have an iPhone5, I probably won’t use this, but they did have a pretty cool charger thing that ran for $49.  I’ll probably pass on this.

Overall, I was really excited about this box.  Totally worth the $39 and I love the surprises.  I can’t wait to sit in my wrap with some of my citrus body lotion and read my new book.

Darby Smart April

April’s box came and I was excited to see what it was when I felt the weight of the box.

The supplies

It turned out to be a metal stamping kit.  I loved the idea of making a stamped necklace and pulled out a rug and piece of cardboard to protect my floor.  I decided to go with Yoga/Zen themes for my pendants.

I simply marked out where I wanted each letter to go and taped it to the metal block.

I actually wanted the one on the right to say “Breathe” but it didn’t fit and I had poor planning.  🙂

Darby Smart remains one of my favorite boxes for their diversity of projects.  They vary greatly and introduce me to new mediums.  I am happy to continue with this subscription.  Next up this weekend : For the Makers and Paper Pumpkin.
