Golden Tote March 2015

My Golden Tote has finally arrived for March.  (It took 3 weeks to get here!)  They really need to work on their customer service.  It shouldn’t take 3 weeks to get an order and the sale launch was delayed because of problems with their new website.

Here’s what I got.

Golden Tote March 2015

These are the two items I picked

Touch of Spring Top

Golden Tote Touch of Spring Top

I like this top, it’s a soft lightweight material and the mixed media looks great with these black pants from Athleta.

Striped Blazer

Golden Tote March 2015

I wish I had ordered this in a small.  When I pull the two sides together as if I was going to close it (it has no buttons) it fits nicely, but when it hangs open like you’d wear it it looks too loose and shapeless.  It makes me look heavy and bulky which is not what I was going for.

Kerisma Ombre Sweater – Blue

Golden Tote March 2015

This is one of my favorite surprise items.  I love the color (it seems more purple to me) and it’s super soft.  It is a high-lo sweater which I don’t always love, but the color and fabric make up for it.

Le Lis Leopard Print Blouse

Golden Tote March 2015

Out of the box I thought I liked this the least, but when I put it on it is so silky and nice and I decided I could pair it with some cute jewelry and maybe a blazer to make it work.

Love Stitch 3/4 Sleeve Tassel Top – Blush

Golden Tote March 2015

Golden Tote March 2015

The hem on this is not very well made and it is just blousy.  I’ll try to make it work with some lighter colored jeans and different sandals.  I like the boho trend but these loose flowy tops don’t usually work for me.

Renee C Work Blouse – White

Another Hi-Lo top.  These items really need ironing.  I don’t care for the fit of this but maybe I can pair it with something to make it work.

Overall, this months Golden Tote was okay.  I like one of the items I picked and a few of the surprises, but nothing really wow-ed me.  I’m wondering what they will have for their April sale which starts April 13th.

Farewell to Stitch Fix

Dear Stitch Fix,

I’ve decided it’s time to part ways.  It’s not me, it’s you.  Why do you ignore my requests and send me items that do not fit any of my style profile requirements?  First it was tanks, tanks, and more tanks.  Sometimes it was weird miss America style tops.  For a while it was drapey cardigans.  It’s been a good run (this was fix #20) but I just can’t do this anymore.  I’ve realized I can do better on my own now, so it’s best if we part ways.

Here’s what I got in my final fix.

Stitch Fix Review November 2014

Colors are not bad, but what is that thing on the right?  We shall soon find out.

Three Dots – Dante Striped Boat Neck Knit Top  $88

Stitch Fix Review November 2014 Stitch Fix Review November 2014

This top was the least offensive of the bunch.  Unfortunately it had a curved hem at the bottom that was asymetrical and was shorter in the back.  It wasn’t flattering and the neckline was really wide which I didn’t like.  For $88 I would expect better qualityand something much more unique.

Ellison – Davis Leopard Print Button-Up-Cardigan  $68

stitch fix last 036 Stitch Fix Review November 2014Being super long like this, I figured maybe I could wear it with leggings, but I couldn’t even button up the last few buttons over my hips and it was extremely unflattering.  Definite no for my body.  I could have tried to just wear it open, but the fabric was itchy and not at all comfortable so this was not a keeper.

Laila Jayde – Mallorie Henley Thermal Top  $68

Stitch Fix Review November 2014

Stitch Fix Review November 2014Call me crazy, but if you wanted to wear a thermal top, wouldn’t you want a little more of your top half actually covered??  This was so low cut that if I didn’t have a tank top on it would be showing my bra.  I explicitly stated that I want to be covered up top so why this was a pick for me, I’m not sure.  I’ve never kept a top that had a big gaping neckline.  Also $68 for a thin thermal top you could get at old navy for $10 seemed stupid.  And the one at Old Navy actually covers you!

Level 99 – Patrick Chino Pant  $108

Mind the gap!

Stitch Fix Review November 2014

These do not say “crop” anywhere in the description, but they are about 3-4 inches too short if they were meant to be regular length pants.  They hit at a  very unflattering place about 2 inches above my ankle and make me look like I have fat ankles.  Either way, I have no desire for cropped pants in November.  Plus they gaped in the waist band horribly.  (I mentioned I needed pants with curvy fit for pear shaped people.)

Olive & Oak – Wallace Plaid Open Cardigan  $54

????????????????

Stitch Fix Review November 2014

This looks like it belongs on either Hillary Clinton or a couch.  My husband said “couch” when he saw it.  I don’t what this hideous monstrosity is or why they would have selected it for me, but it doesn’t fit my style in any way.  I wondered what one would pair with such an odd article and apparently they didn’t really know either:

Stitch Fix Review November 2014So either a grey T that would be completely covered and seems way too casual, or a black cocktail dress.  Because nothing pairs with a cocktail dress like a couch sweater coat.

Overall

This fix did not redeem itself and I have decided that I’m better off picking out things on my own from my favorite stores where I will generally like the style and know what fits.  I went ahead and cancelled my Stitch Fix subscription even though I still had a $25 credit.  It just wasn’t worth the hassle of trying everything on then needing to head to the post office to send everything back within 3 days.  It was a nice run and I had 20 fixes in total, but I think something happened where they lost track of what I was interested in and just couldn’t match my style or preferences anymore.  It is with sadness that I bid stitch fix adieu.  😥

Boden Fall Items

I had a 20% off code a few weeks ago, so decided to order a few things from Boden for October.  I was really pleased with most of it and kept almost everything.

British Tweed Mini

Boden British Tweed MiniI love this skirt for fall.  The plaid fabric is nice and the colors are muted.  I paired it with these naturalizer heels and a sweater from Loft last season.  I ended up ordering this in a 6R because I wanted it to be around this length to wear with tights.  (I normally go for long lengths at Boden which is one of the things I love about them!)

British Tweed Mini – Boden blue check

Naturalizer Believe Pump – DSW $59.95

Sixties Mini Part 1

Boden Sixties Mini and Printed Shirt
Hot dog dogs!

I am in love with this skirt, which is a good thing since I ordered it in 2 colors.  Here I’m wearing the navy in a 6L (love the longer length, doesn’t really make it a “mini” though) with the printed top that has tiny little dachshund dogs on it size 6.  Adorable!!

I actually wore this outfit to work today.  I tried it on last night, loved it and put it out to wear the very next day.

Printed Shirt – Boden

Sixties Mini – Boden Navy

Sixties Mini Part 2

Boden Sixties Mini and Pattern Jumper
Tiny British soldiers

And this is the sixties mini again in the Bright Coral color paired with the patterned jumper with tiny british soldiers on it.  I love the sweater.  It fits nicely and is so soft!  I got the sweater in a size 8 because I wanted to be able to wear a button down shirt underneath for layering, but it fits nicely even without an extra layer.  I can sometimes get a size 6 in sweaters so I think this one ran a tiny bit small.

Sixties Mini – Boden Bright Coral

Pattern Sweater – Boden Night Blue

Ponte Skater Dress

Boden Ponte Skater Dress

This was the only item that (very regrettably) had to go back.  The fabric was nice, the color was great, the swish of the skirt was fantastic, but the bodice just didn’t work for me.  The darts stood out leaving puckers of fabric in an unattractive way and it just didn’t work for me.  I have since decided to reorder it in the plum color in a size 4L with hopes that the top would fit better but I’m not sure if that will work.  I ordered plum since they didn’t have the green in my size at the moment (it has since been restocked.)  I really hope the plum one works out!

September Golden Tote Review

My September Golden Tote has arrived, and the packaging was a little different.  This time, none of the items were in bags, but were instead held together with a stretchy headband (similar to what Stitch Fix does)

Golden Tote Review SeptemberThe two items I had picked were on the bottom so I’ll start with those.

Chic Front Pocket Jacket in Peach

Golden Tote September Review

Golden Tote September Review

I attempted to style this similar to what they did on the card.  I didn’t have a necklace like on the card but I’m sure I can dig up something similar.  I just got these metallic pink ballet flats from Amazon and thought they worked with the outfit.  The jacket is soft and comfortable so I imagine I’ll be able to wear it a lot.

Plaid Button Down Shirt in Red

Golden Tote September Review

Golden Tote September Review

For some reason I was expecting this one to be flannel (didn’t read the description) but it’s actually just a cotton plaid shirt.  I like the roll sleeves and it’s got a nice slim cut to it.  I’ve seen some ideas for how to wear it on pinterest (black jeans, jean jacket) so I’ll be sure to wear it soon.

Then here are my four surprise items.

 Hem & Thread Dolman Top

Golden Tote September ReviewGolden Tote September Review

This was probably my least favorite surprise item.  The top is pretty short and rides up when you move, but it’s very comfortable and the colors are interesting.  I’ll wear it on a weekend sometime and see how comfortable it is.

 Skies are Blue Lace Top

Golden Tote September ReviewGolden Tote September Review

This was totally something you’d find at Anthropologie with a big price tag.  I like the lace front and roll sleeves.  Easy piece to layer with.

 Le Lis Mixed Media Sweatshirt

Golden Tote September ReviewGolden Tote September Review

The front of the sweatshirt is super soft and it’s very cozy.  The only thing I don’t like about it is how wide the neck is.  If I’m wearing something warm like this, I don’t want a wide open neck to make me feel cold.  I saw ideas on the blog to wear this with a chambray shirt underneath, so I may do that to stay warm.

Priddy Knit Pants with Faux Leather Waistband

Again, these are super cozy and comfortable, but styling them will be a challenge.  The  blog suggested a tank and cardigan or a tank and high heels.  I’m not sure I can make them look dressy, but I’ll see what I can make work because they are sooo comfortable.

Overall Impressions

I was pretty happy with almost every item in this tote.  I got a bunch of great fall pieces and fashionable items that I would not have picked for myself.  I was a bit disappointed I didn’t get the plaid tee that some people were getting as a surprise item, but what I got was pretty good too.  I think Golden Tote is a great value for $149.

Summer Outfits

Here are some of the things I’ve been wearing to work.

drapey pants
Priddy knit pants

I got these pants from a Golden Tote and they are so comfortable I want to live in them.  I paired them with a fitted tee and a long grey cardigan.

wide leg pants

These are from Anthropologie and I paired them with heels since they are so long and a chambray shirt.

The top was from stitch fix and I paired it with a white jacket and cuffed jeans with platform sandals.

I really love this dress from Golden Tote.  I love it so much I decided to order a second tote this month so I could get the Blue version of this swing dress.

Golden Tote Surprise Dress

This was one of the Golden Tote surprise dresses and I really like it with this lightweight military style jacket and a simple bracelet and earrings.  It’s a good summer to fall transitional piece.

Boden First Fall Picks

The Boden Fall catalog was full of cute items but I only had room in my budget for a few things this month.  Here is what I picked.

Boden Fall Picks

Hotpotch Pattern Sweater – $108

Boden Fall Picks

I love the colors and softness of this sweater.  I was drawn to the mustard color and the fit is very nice.

Chepstow Top – $78

I got this one in the tobacco and navy colors.

Boden Fall Picks Boden Fall Picks

I had thought the tobacco color would be more mustard as it looked in the catalog and online, but in person it was much more brown.  I still really liked the patterns and colors though so I’m keeping both.

Easy Printed Top – $78

Boden Fall Picks

I love the blue shade of this top and the overall fit.  It will be good for work in the fall.

I had a 20% off coupon when I bought these but that sale is over.  It looks like the current deal is $45 of when you spend $200, $30 when you spend $150, or $15 when you spend $75.
