Golden Tote August Review

My Golden Tote for August arrived last week, but I was busy taking care of my nephew for 5 days and didn’t get a chance to open it until last night. ¬†(It is a nice reward after a week of entertaining a 9 year old boy!) ūüôā

Here’s what I got this month:

Golden Tote August Review
Golden Tote August 2014

I really like the design on the tote this month. ¬†I’m not sure what to do with all of the cute totes I’ve gotten from them. ¬†I wonder if people have creative ideas?

Here are the two items I picked:

Golden Tote August Review

I think they sent me one of the wrong cards.  I did get the striped summer swing dress, but my other item was the red kimono, not the fringed one.  Maybe they just had one card for kimonos?

Golden Tote August Review

Hanging up it’s just a rather shapeless dress, but I had seen it on one of the models with a cute skinny red belt which I didn’t happen to have, but I do have a wide red belt and I think the result is nice.

Golden Tote August Review

You can’t tell from the picture, but it’s actually a little longer in back and it’s SO comfortable. ¬†I love all of the knits I got in this month’s tote.

Golden Tote August Review
Red Kimono

I had been wanting a kimono for some time and the red color on this one really stood out to me.

Golden Tote August Review

I might play around with different ways to wear it because this is just okay.  Maybe with heels?  Black skinny jeans?

Then there were four surprise items.

Golden Tote August Review
Priddy Striped Dress

I think this was my favorite surprise item. ¬†This will be a great dress to wear in the fall with a military style jacket and later with tights and boots. ¬†It’s also cute just by itself for late summer.

Golden Tote August Review

This is my next favorite.

Golden Tote August Review
Fantastic Fawn dolman sleeve shirt

Again, this is super soft and drapey and very comfortable.

Golden Tote August ReviewGolden Tote August Review

I like the cute back details.

The next item is another tank, but it’s not too loose and the colors are easy to pair with other items.

Golden Tote August Review
Collective Concepts Tank

Golden Tote August Review

I think I saw someone get this in a Stitch Fix. ¬†I know they send out Collective Concepts brand items so it’s possible.

Then the last item is my least favorite.

Golden Tote August Review
Renee C. cocoon cardigan
Golden Tote August Review
Batwings!

I just couldn’t get it to lay very nicely and have no idea how to wear it. ¬†Since it’s one of those items I will never reach for in my already crowded closet I think I’ll do a giveaway with this item. ¬†I’m going on a trip next week and will be out of town so I’ll do the giveaway when I get back.

Overall Impressions

I really liked this Golden Tote and felt that it was very much worth the $149 for the 5 items I really loved.  I was very happy with the surprises this time and all of the cozy soft fabrics.

August Stitch Fix Review

Sigh. ¬†I think the only way to sum this month’s Stitch Fix up is with an emoticon.

It looks so promising…

Pomelo – Aggie Sleeveless Side Gathered Striped Maxi Dress $68

I had actually seen this dress on the blog and thought it looked cute, so I was excited to see it.

And then I see it on.  Nothing about this worked.  My bra straps were visible, the pattern did nothing for my shape, and it clung to every lump and bump on my body.

Going back.

Kensie Jeans РKaleigh Ankle Biter Skinny Jean  $88

Red jeans! ¬†Something I’ve wanted forever! ¬†The fabric is stretchy and the color is exactly what I wanted. ¬†Let’s see what they look like on.

Stitch Fix August ReviewAnnnnd no. ¬†Skin tight, low rise, and just terrible. ¬†What a disaster. ¬†The best part is the stylist called these “Straight Fit” when the label clearly called them skinny fit.

Going back.

Under Skies – Simran Solid French Terry Moto Jacket $78

Stitch Fix August Review

I had asked for a “lightweight summer jacket I could wear with dresses and tops in the air conditioned office.” ¬†This jacket is a very non-neutral color and is most definitely not light weight. ¬†It was a heavy sweater material.

Stitch Fix August Review

Stitch Fix August Review

On, it is just okay. ¬†But I don’t love it and it doesn’t fill any gaps in my current wardrobe so¬†back it goes.

Skies are Blue – Alexa Embroidery Detailed Tank $48

Then there are tanks. ¬†Again. ¬†Which I’ve asked them to stop sending.

Stitch Fix August ReviewIt’s cute on the hanger.

Stitch Fix August Review

Stitch Fix August ReviewAnd makes me look pregnant.  This is where the stylist was WAY off.  She said she sent me some tops to flatter my pear shape that are tight at the top then get wider at the bottom.  That is the OPPOSITE of what is flattering for a pear shape.  Any  blog or fashion article or anything you read says pear shapes should wear fitted tops to accentuate the waist.  This shape only makes my natural shape worse and makes me look incredibly large.

Going back. ¬†(Seeing a trend….?)

19 Cooper – Lanea Graphic Print Racerback Tank $58

Stitch Fix August Review
Racerback. Tank. Two strikes.

Stitch Fix August Review

Stitch Fix August ReviewAnd a big fat no.  Again, this is terrible for my shape and makes me look pregnant and fat.

Going back.

Overall Impressions

I did not get my usual stylist this time (Cody) and the new one really missed what I was asking for with these picks. ¬†The tops were terrible and unflattering, and the pants were way too tight. ¬†The dress I will take the blame for since I added it to my pinterest page, but nothing else was good. ¬†Everything is going back which means I am out $20, but I wasn’t keeping any of these items just to not lose out on the $20 so I’m just plain out.

I considered cancelling my September fix all together, but instead I scheduled it for further out and asked for absolutely no tank tops and no loose flowy tops like that. ¬†I’d love to see another pants option with a higher waist and not super skinny fit.

Such a disappointment for August.

Stitch Fix July Review

My July Stitch Fix came Friday and I was pretty pleased.

Stitch Fix July Review
The Goods

Once again, I’m seeing mostly blue and some black and white but with a pop of green. ¬†Where are the colors??

Gorjana – Corinna Delicate Bar Necklace $60

Stitch Fix July Review
Delicate gold necklace

I tried this necklace on and fell in love before I looked at the price.  When I saw it was $60 I was a little shocked and thought about returning it for that reason, but I felt that it was a very classic piece that could be worn with many outfits and decided to keep it.

Mystree – Silvia Mixed Material Knit Shirt $28

Stitch Fix July ReviewStitch Fix July Review

Stitch Fix July ReviewThis was a uniquely patterned top and despite the fact that it was black and white (and I had said no black and no blue on my profile) I like the pattern and cut, plus the price was right on this one, so I am keeping it.

Tart – Daryn Batik Print Jersey Knit Top $74

Stitch Fix July ReviewStitch Fix July Review

What you’re not seeing is that it has a super deep v-back.

Stitch Fix July Review

The pattern and cut in the front are cute, but the super deep v in the back (why??) and the built in bra made me definitely want to return it.  Why would you have a nice modest cut in the front then dip so low in the back?  Plus the price was pretty ridiculous for a knit top.  Going back.

Pomelo – Brentwood Space Dye Tiered Tank $58

Another tank

This top is a gorgeous color and an interesting cut. ¬†I wasn’t sure how it would look on my pear shaped body, but it seems to accentuate my waist rather than emphasize the hips which I was worried about. ¬†I think it will be super cute under a cropped jacket. ¬†Because of the color and unique cut, I’m keeping this one.

LA MADE РFelix Sleeveless Fitted Maxi Dress  $88

Stitch Fix July Review
Noooo!!!!!

This dress is obscenely clingy and made me look like I had a really weird gut.  You could even see the outline of my belly button.  Very awful.  Going back right away.

Overall Impressions

I see that my stylist did not look at my comments at all this time. ¬†I had asked for a lightweight summer jacket, maybe some bottoms, no more tank tops, and had specifically said no black or blue. ¬†I’m hoping that she reads the comments for August, but won’t hold my breath.¬† Despite that, I ended up with two cute tops and a necklace that I like, so overall I’m pretty pleased. ¬†I still adore Stitch Fix despite the last few misses.

I Love my July Golden Tote

When they released the previews for the July Golden Tote, I knew that I had to have the polka dot top. ¬†I was undecided between the green and blue version because they were both so cute. ¬†When the tote was released, I didn’t really care for any of the other items (far too skimpy or revealing for me) so I just got the $49 tote and chose the blue polka dot top.

Surprise Item

My surprise item was this adorable coral maxi dress.  I absolutely LOVE it!

Overall, it was definitely worth the $49. ¬†I love both items and will definitely be wearing them soon. ¬†This month’s tote was a great value and I love both items.

Stitch Fix June Review

My June Stitch Fix has arrived a bit early, but here’s what I got.

Stitch Fix June
Brighter colors

I see a crazy necklace, some pink and one green item.  At least there is some color now.

Pomelo – Mylo Chevron Print Skirt $58

I had asked for the teal chevron skirt I had seen in my last few fixes, and this time I got a pink chevron patterned skirt. ¬†It is a poly blend fabric which I didn’t love, but it is nice and stretchy and long enough for work so paired with this white tee and the necklace, I think it’s a keeper.

Yumi – Quin Eyelet Detailed Fit and Flare Dress – $98

Doesn’t fit

On the hanger this was pretty cute, but I could tell it was very large in the top and looked pretty short.  On me it stuck out a ton at the top and was way too short for work.  I think it was maybe meant for people with a larger bust.  Going back.

Pomelo – Dory Braid Detailed Striped Tank $44

Paired with a white jacket as the card suggested, this tank is quite cute.  The necklace really works with it too.  Keeping this.

Cute fit, itchy fabric

The fit on this was cute and it would have made a great weekend tee, but the fabric contained a bit of linen and it was super itchy. ¬†I didn’t think linen was an issue for me, but I think maybe I’ll check that box in the profile to say avoid linen. ¬†Too bad the fabric was itchy. ¬†Going back.

Bay to Baubbles – Mumford Beaded Ombre Collar Necklace $44

Stitch Fix June
Bay to Baubles necklace

This actually arrived broken, but I make jewelry for a hobby and had tools to fix it.  I think the quality is not great for $44, but it looked pretty cute on.

Overall Impressions

I was glad to see a skirt and some color this time, and I ended up keeping 3 of the items. ¬†The necklace was a surprise because I wouldn’t have picked it out but it really makes a white t-shirt pop.

Golden Tote May Review

The May Golden Tote has arrived!!

Golden Tote May

Golden Tote MayFor those of you unfamiliar with Golden Tote, it is a subscription clothing service where you can opt in each month by picking either one item for $49 or two items for $149. ¬†If you pick the $49 tote, they will send you an additional 1-2 surprise items, and if you pick the $149 tote you will get an additional 3-5 surprise items. ¬†Unlike Stitch Fix you don’t get to pick and choose what you keep, with Golden Tote it is an all or nothing deal, but it is usually worth the price even if you don’t like all of the items. ¬†The items are very similar to what you would find at Anthropologie.

Here’s what I picked for the May Tote:

Golden Tote May

Golden Tote May
Floral blouse

Golden Tote May

I really love this first pick.  The colors on the blouse are beautiful and the fabric is so soft and comfortable.  Great first pick!

My second pick was the off white kimono:

Golden Tote May

Golden Tote MayGolden Tote May

I love the embroidered design on the back and it has a nice fit where it is longer in back.  Very different piece from what I would normally pick, but I like it.

Here were the four surprise items:

Golden Tote May
Priddy dress
Golden Tote May
Naked Zebra Dress
Golden Tote May
Renee C Chevron Dolman Top
Golden Tote May
Under Skies Halter Tank

Of the four surprise items, I liked two of them pretty well.

Golden Tote May(Sorry for the horribly blurry picture), this dress was a surprise to me. ¬†At first I thought I could never pull it off because it’s quite short and thin, but when I added leggings, short black booties and a long necklace, I ended up really liking it. ¬†This is a great find for me.

Golden Tote MayI also liked this dolman top. ¬†The fabric is super soft and it drapes nicely. ¬†I just wasn’t sure how far to pull the band down at the bottom because it’s fitted and long. ¬†This length seemed to work okay.

And finally for the two items I didn’t care for.

Golden Tote May

I don’t really ever wear tops that show my arms so you’d never even see that this was a halter tank. ¬†Also it’s see through so you need to wear something underneath and a tank with straps would always show through. ¬†Just not my style.

The other thing that didn’t work was the Priddy dress. ¬†I don’t even have a picture of me wearing it because it was that bad on me. ¬†It was super short and did nothing for my figure. ¬†(I’ve already been feeling somewhat bad about my body lately so I wasn’t going to create photographic evidence for what I’ve been thinking.)

Giveaway is now over

Congratulations to Jenn B. for the Speckled Tank, and Debbie P. for the Priddy Dress. ¬†I’ll be putting those in the mail sometime this week. ¬†Watch your mailboxes!

Overall Impressions

Overall, I think this month’s Golden Tote was worthwhile and fun. ¬†I love seeing what the surprise items are and the two I picked worked out well for me. ¬†If they have cute items again next month I’ll definitely consider Golden Tote again. ¬†If you decide to check it out, please use my referral link. ¬†Thanks!
