Stitch Fix – Revisited

After viewing what some other customers had been getting for their spring stitch fix, I decided that I would give it another try.  In November I had decided that it just wasn’t working for me and cancelled my monthly boxes but I wanted to see if their inventory had changed so I signed up for a single box in May.  In the comments I asked for a midi or maxi skirt, a colorful blouse and requested a pale pink top I had seen on someone else.

Here’s what I got.

Didn’t love the color of this until I put it on and it is sooo soft and comfy!  It will be a great weekend shirt or casual workday shirt.

Fun2Fun – Marlena Abstract Print Tab Sleeve Blouse $48

Stitch Fix May 2015 ReviewThis was the attempt at a “colorful blouse”.  I guess I need to be more specific and say “bright happy color blouse” which is really what I meant.  The colors in this are dull and neutral but when I put it on the fit was flattering and I like the print from a distance.

Brixon Ivy – Lex Textured Floral Knit Fit & Flare Dress  $74

Stitch Fix May 2015 Review

This is a nice fit and flare dress and I am in love with the colors.  Yellow is my favorite color so it was nice to see something in a shade I had kept requesting in the past.  I wish the neckline was a little higher because without the necklace it looks really bare and I feel more exposed than I’m comfortable with at work.  I’ll just pair it with a jacket on top for work I guess.

Gilli – Alanis Maxi Skirt $44

So no midi skirts for me, but this maxi had a nice pattern.  The puzzle to me was why she sent it in a size small?  I had requested mediums for bottoms and this was an extremely form fitted bottom so why the size small???  I was really debating sending this one back, but it was comfortable and I found a top in my closet that really worked with it and ended up wearing it the next day to work.

Overall Impressions

Surprisingly I ended up keeping all of the items from this stitch fix!  At first glance I wasn’t thrilled with the picks, but once I started trying things on I ended up wanting to keep all of it.  Despite the success of this box I am not super jazzed about signing up for another one and would rather reserve my clothing budget for things like Golden Tote and Boden.  But for May I’m pretty happy with what I got.

Farewell to Stitch Fix

Dear Stitch Fix,

I’ve decided it’s time to part ways.  It’s not me, it’s you.  Why do you ignore my requests and send me items that do not fit any of my style profile requirements?  First it was tanks, tanks, and more tanks.  Sometimes it was weird miss America style tops.  For a while it was drapey cardigans.  It’s been a good run (this was fix #20) but I just can’t do this anymore.  I’ve realized I can do better on my own now, so it’s best if we part ways.

Here’s what I got in my final fix.

Stitch Fix Review November 2014

Colors are not bad, but what is that thing on the right?  We shall soon find out.

Three Dots – Dante Striped Boat Neck Knit Top  $88

Stitch Fix Review November 2014 Stitch Fix Review November 2014

This top was the least offensive of the bunch.  Unfortunately it had a curved hem at the bottom that was asymetrical and was shorter in the back.  It wasn’t flattering and the neckline was really wide which I didn’t like.  For $88 I would expect better qualityand something much more unique.

Ellison – Davis Leopard Print Button-Up-Cardigan  $68

stitch fix last 036 Stitch Fix Review November 2014Being super long like this, I figured maybe I could wear it with leggings, but I couldn’t even button up the last few buttons over my hips and it was extremely unflattering.  Definite no for my body.  I could have tried to just wear it open, but the fabric was itchy and not at all comfortable so this was not a keeper.

Laila Jayde – Mallorie Henley Thermal Top  $68

Stitch Fix Review November 2014

Stitch Fix Review November 2014Call me crazy, but if you wanted to wear a thermal top, wouldn’t you want a little more of your top half actually covered??  This was so low cut that if I didn’t have a tank top on it would be showing my bra.  I explicitly stated that I want to be covered up top so why this was a pick for me, I’m not sure.  I’ve never kept a top that had a big gaping neckline.  Also $68 for a thin thermal top you could get at old navy for $10 seemed stupid.  And the one at Old Navy actually covers you!

Level 99 – Patrick Chino Pant  $108

Mind the gap!

Stitch Fix Review November 2014

These do not say “crop” anywhere in the description, but they are about 3-4 inches too short if they were meant to be regular length pants.  They hit at a  very unflattering place about 2 inches above my ankle and make me look like I have fat ankles.  Either way, I have no desire for cropped pants in November.  Plus they gaped in the waist band horribly.  (I mentioned I needed pants with curvy fit for pear shaped people.)

Olive & Oak – Wallace Plaid Open Cardigan  $54

????????????????

Stitch Fix Review November 2014

This looks like it belongs on either Hillary Clinton or a couch.  My husband said “couch” when he saw it.  I don’t what this hideous monstrosity is or why they would have selected it for me, but it doesn’t fit my style in any way.  I wondered what one would pair with such an odd article and apparently they didn’t really know either:

Stitch Fix Review November 2014So either a grey T that would be completely covered and seems way too casual, or a black cocktail dress.  Because nothing pairs with a cocktail dress like a couch sweater coat.

Overall

This fix did not redeem itself and I have decided that I’m better off picking out things on my own from my favorite stores where I will generally like the style and know what fits.  I went ahead and cancelled my Stitch Fix subscription even though I still had a $25 credit.  It just wasn’t worth the hassle of trying everything on then needing to head to the post office to send everything back within 3 days.  It was a nice run and I had 20 fixes in total, but I think something happened where they lost track of what I was interested in and just couldn’t match my style or preferences anymore.  It is with sadness that I bid stitch fix adieu.  😥

Stitch Fix October – Everything goes back

I was really excited for my October stitch fix since they had a featured blog post about the color mustard which is my all-time favorite color to wear.  I had requested a mustard piece, a pair of colored pants, and a delicate silver necklace.  (Also, I have reiterated time and time again, no more tank tops.)

Here’s what I got.

Stitch Fix October 2014
Nice fall colors

I see the lovely pop of mustard, with some stripes, ad leopard print and a eggplant color.  So far I’m really loving the colors.

Stitch Fix October 2014The pants are so tight I’d categorize them as leggings.  They were very ummm… inappropriate in the front region and I would have to wear a tunic length top to wear them out in public.  The color was nice, and they technically fit, but I don’t really like skin tight pants and it was not a flattering look.

The top was a cute fit and I liked the curved hem, but the fabric was itchy and it was very sheer and see through.  Both went back.

Eclair – Cailin Leopard Print Sleeveless Blouse  $54

Gee, another tank

Stitch Fix October 2014Stitch Fix October 2014

The colors were nice on this tank, but the fact that it is a tank is a point against it because I have a closet full of them that I don’t wear.  Also the fabric was not soft and un-breathable.  Definitely going back.

Three Dots – Aleisha Fit and Flare Dress  $88

Stitch Fix October 2014

Stitch Fix October 2014

Stitch Fix October 2014

I had a hard time deciding about this one.  On one hand, I loved the color and the soft knit.  On the other hand, it had a lining that was super tight and clung to all my curves in a non-flattering way, which then made the top layer that was supposed to “flare” also cling.  It had a very unfortunate effect and had it actually fit and flared, I think I might have kept it.  For $88 I decided a knit dress that made me feel uncomfortable wasn’t worth it.  When I was walking around, the lining layer kept riding up and I could tell this would be something very fussy to wear requiring constant readjusting.  Went back.

The award for worst item goes to…

And I saved the worst for last.  This was the lovely mustard color I spotted and man was I disappointed.  This item could have been almost anything else in this color and I probably would have kept it.  But this?  Awful.  I’m not sure who this would look good on, maybe a woman with a larger bust and smaller hips?  But it was definitely not made for a pear shape and makes me look 10x bigger on bottom and even smaller on top.  Plus there is really no way to layer with this top.  So sad to send back a mustard item when they finally sent one.  But really?  This for a pear shape who said no tanks?  Sigh.

Overall Impression

I think I may finally be getting over my Stitch Fix obsession and actually cancelled my November Fix.  I’ll still do one in December, but I haven’t been pleased with very many items they’ve been sending lately and feel I can do much better on my own by picking out things I like at other stores.  Even Golden Tote has been a better bet for me lately.  The surprise items there always seem to work for me and it isn’t really personalized at all.  I think I’m expecting the stylists to pay more attention to what I’ve asked for and what I didn’t like, but I don’t think they have time to actually make it all that personalized at Stitch Fix.  I didn’t even mention the fact that this fix was a week late and they lost the package for a while.  I had to contact customer service 3 times in order to resolve it.  So for November I’ll be skipping Stitch Fix, but maybe I’ll try again in December.

UPDATE:

One of the stylists over at Stitch Fix (Michelle) got a hold of me after the previous stylist (Carrie) had read my feedback on this fix and offered to waive the $20 styling fee if I was willing to give it another shot.  I agreed to keep my November date and sent her a pretty detailed message about my body type, style preferences, and color preferences.  She has volunteered to style my next fix since we now have an open channel of dialog.  I hope the November fix works out much better, and it will be no risk since they offered to waive the $20 styling fee.  Fingers crossed.

Stitch Fix September Review

My September Stitch Fix came on Friday and this one was a bit better than the last.

Stitch Fix September Review
Latest Fix

This time I had requested more pants to try and some color.  I don’t think the stylists understand what I mean when I request color because she commented on the fact that these items were colorful.  Aside from the red jeans, I see grey and white, white and blue, and some very muted green and navy.  To me this is very dull and neutral, which is fine sometimes but doesn’t really say “colorful” to me.  Stitch Fix just posted some new items to their pinterest page in Mustard, Teal and Burgundy and I would have been thrilled with a pop of mustard or teal.  Oh well, maybe next time.

I don’t understand how these could possibly be considered “straight leg” jeans when they are skin tight.  I’d call these skinny jeans and don’t understand what happened to actual straight leg jeans.  They were somewhat flattering on and actually fit pretty well, but my one complaint is they were lacking a zipper or a fly so they need to be pulled up over your hips and bottom.  I happen to be down a few pounds right now, but I have a feeling if I gain any weight I won’t be able to pull these on anymore.  I kept them because I desperately wanted red jeans and they were somewhat flattering, but I am worried about the lack of zipper.

Verdict – keep

While I like the style of the top and the colors were fine, I didn’t care for the neckline.  It just sort of looked stretched out and the fabric was rather clingy and unflattering.  For the price I sent it back since I can get a cute baseball tee at Gap for a fraction of the price.

Overall Impressions

Overall I ended up keeping two items from this fix, the red jeans and the blue blouse.  I’m happy the stylist was able to find me red jeans that worked, but still wish they weren’t so tight and wish they had a fly with a zipper.  I had honestly been considering dropping stitch fix for a while, but with the new post about mustard being a trend I’m really hoping I’ll get a mustard colored item in my October fix so I’ll try again.

I had asked for a “lightweight summer jacket I could wear with dresses and tops in the air conditioned office.”  This jacket is a very non-neutral color and is most definitely not light weight.  It was a heavy sweater material.

Stitch Fix August ReviewAnd makes me look pregnant.  This is where the stylist was WAY off.  She said she sent me some tops to flatter my pear shape that are tight at the top then get wider at the bottom.  That is the OPPOSITE of what is flattering for a pear shape.  Any  blog or fashion article or anything you read says pear shapes should wear fitted tops to accentuate the waist.  This shape only makes my natural shape worse and makes me look incredibly large.

Going back.  (Seeing a trend….?)

Overall Impressions

I did not get my usual stylist this time (Cody) and the new one really missed what I was asking for with these picks.  The tops were terrible and unflattering, and the pants were way too tight.  The dress I will take the blame for since I added it to my pinterest page, but nothing else was good.  Everything is going back which means I am out $20, but I wasn’t keeping any of these items just to not lose out on the $20 so I’m just plain out.

I considered cancelling my September fix all together, but instead I scheduled it for further out and asked for absolutely no tank tops and no loose flowy tops like that.  I’d love to see another pants option with a higher waist and not super skinny fit.

Such a disappointment for August.

Overall Impressions

I see that my stylist did not look at my comments at all this time.  I had asked for a lightweight summer jacket, maybe some bottoms, no more tank tops, and had specifically said no black or blue.  I’m hoping that she reads the comments for August, but won’t hold my breath.  Despite that, I ended up with two cute tops and a necklace that I like, so overall I’m pretty pleased.  I still adore Stitch Fix despite the last few misses.
